About The Position

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at East Tennessee State University invites applications for a Professor of Practice position beginning January 2027. The department has 12 tenured or tenure-track faculty, 4 full-time teaching staff, and 3 adjunct instructors. It serves 49 undergraduate majors with concentrations in statistics, computational applied mathematics, mathematical sciences, and mathematics teacher education. Additionally, there are 19 graduate students pursuing an MS in Mathematical Sciences and 16 in an MS in Applied Data Science. The department is recognized for its high-quality teaching, research, and outreach. East Tennessee State University has an enrollment of approximately 14,000 students. We are a Carnegie foundation doctoral research university, with associated Colleges of Pharmacy & medicine. ETSU is located in Johnson City, a city of 74,000 in Northeast Tennessee between the Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Mathematics
  • 10+ Years of Teaching Experience in Higher Education
  • Must be willing to relocate to Tri-Cities Area

Nice To Haves

  • Evidence of research in peer-reviewed journals
  • Willingness to teach upper level and Masters level courses
  • Willingness to mentor student research at both the undergraduate and graduate level
  • Willingness to be involved in student clubs such as the Math & Stats club and the (informal) Abstract Algebra club
