About The Position

A Professor of Practice is a non-tenure track faculty member who is selected for their professional expertise and experience in a particular field. In this role, you will be serving as a Capstone Advisor for the College of Engineering's Capstone Design Program at NMSU. The program was established in the fall of 2018 to provide students with a capstone experience that closely mimics real-life scenarios. This is achieved by exposing students to interdisciplinary projects defined by industry professionals, and overseen by mentors with a background in project management. Teams of seniors work together in the fall and spring semesters of their final year to create, build and test their innovative projects. As a Capstone Advisor, you will play a crucial role in guiding and supporting students through the completion of their capstone projects.

Requirements

  • A master's or doctoral degree in a relevant field. (Industry experience may be used in lieu of advanced degree)
  • Demonstrated expertise in the subject matter or discipline related to the capstone projects.
  • Strong communication and mentoring skills.
  • Familiarity with academic standards and assessment methods.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in academic advising, research supervision, or project management is preferred.
