About The Position

The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) at the University of Florida is seeking a 12-month tenured or tenure-accruing faculty member for the Entomology and Nematology Department. This position will be 70% research and 30% Extension, based in Gainesville, FL. The faculty member will be responsible for seeking contract and grant funding, engaging in Extension activities, and participating in undergraduate and graduate education. The position is housed in the Honey Bee Research and Extension Laboratory (HBREL), which includes dedicated facilities for research and teaching. The Entomology & Nematology Department is a large and comprehensive program with extensive apiculture-related courses and programs. The University of Florida is a major land-grant institution with a broad range of academic disciplines and a significant enrollment.

Requirements

A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in Entomology or a closely related discipline.
Evidence of collaborative research.
Strong publication record.
Experience in apiculture.
Demonstrated ability to procure extramural research funding for appointment at the Associate and Full Professor rank.
Demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication.
Supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system.

Responsibilities

Develop an internationally recognized, collaborative research program focused on honey bees that integrates basic and applied research to address critical challenges facing apiculture and deliver practical solutions that benefit the beekeeping industry.
Establish a strong, extramurally funded research program and disseminate findings through publications in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.
Develop a targeted Extension program related to the appropriate field of expertise, including conducting need assessments, developing learning tools and activities, and evaluating program impacts.
Cooperate with beekeeping organizations, county Extension faculty, Florida agricultural industries, and the Florida Department of Agriculture.
Participate actively in undergraduate and graduate education by chairing and serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis, dissertation and undergraduate research, and publishing research results with students.
Participate in professional development activities related to teaching and advising.
Teach courses and seminars.
Be supportive of and engaged in all three mission areas—Research, Teaching and Extension—regardless of the assignment split specified in the position description.
