About The Position

The Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa is seeking to fill a tenure-track faculty position in financial accounting at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This position is part of a new initiative to strengthen the school's academic offerings and research capacity. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and academic service activities, with a focus on enhancing the quality of teaching, engaging in scholarly research, contributing to graduate programs, and supervising students. The role involves active participation in the Accounting and Finance section and potential administrative duties. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in accounting or in a related discipline.
  • A master's degree in accounting or a related field, together with a practice as a Canadian CPA for at least three years, may be considered.
  • A high-potential research program as demonstrated by articles published in high-quality and high-impact peer-reviewed journals in Accounting and related areas such as auditing.
  • Applicants are expected to demonstrate a track record of success in attracting competitive research funding and an active engagement in the academic community.
  • Excellent communication skills in French.
  • Passive knowledge of one’s second official language (English) is a requirement for tenure.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach intermediate and advanced financial accounting in French at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • In-depth knowledge of IFRS and ASPE is required.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching activities include strengthening quality teaching, employing excellent pedagogical practices, contributing to graduate programs and interdisciplinarity, and supervising graduate students.
  • Scholarly activities involve securing competitive research funding, maintaining high standards of excellence with an active research agenda in accounting and related areas like auditing.
  • Supervise students in the Accounting and Control field of Telfer’s Doctorate in Management and in the Accounting field of Telfer’s MSc in Management.
  • Academic service activities include being an active member of the Accounting and Finance section and undertaking administrative duties as agreed upon with the section and the Dean.
