About The Position

The Department of Psychiatry (DOP) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU) has an opening for a Professor of Global Mental Health. This role involves securing external research funding, developing new projects and collaborations, building a portfolio of external contract salary support from industry, and bringing business opportunities to the Department. The position requires funding, training, and mentoring research lab members, building interdisciplinary and international partnerships to translate neuroscience discoveries into interventions, and leading externally funded research programs. Additionally, the role includes teaching and mentoring students in various fields, achieving a track record of high-impact publications, and partnering with the Adult Division Research Director to advance research infrastructure and mentor junior researchers. The Professor will also build bridges between the Department of Psychiatry and the Colorado School of Public Health and the Center for Global Health. Requirements

  • PhD or other terminal degree in neuroscience, psychology, bioengineering, or related field
  • Faculty experience at the Professor rank or equivalent experience
  • Capacity for flexibility and adaptability in different work situations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Secure sustained external research funding through major federal, foundation, and international grants, while developing new projects and collaborations that expand the scope and impact of the research.
  • Build a portfolio of uncapped external contract salary support from industry and bring business opportunities from industry to groups within the Department of Psychiatry.
  • Fund, recruit, train, and mentor research lab members, to include PhD students, post-docs, research assistants, and other interdisciplinary research team members.
  • Build interdisciplinary and international partnerships that translate basic neuroscience discoveries into healthy-ageing, mental-health, and community-based interventions with measurable societal impact.
  • Lead externally funded interdisciplinary research programs, to include setting research agenda, carrying out externally funded research while meeting all funding requirements, supervising the lab, and creating opportunities for cross-departmental, cross-institutional, and external collaboration.
  • Teach and mentor students in fields such as neuroscience, psychology, psychiatry, social work, public health, biomedical engineering, quantitative biology, and related disciplines, including classroom instruction, graduate supervision, and advanced research training.
  • Directly and through lab members achieve and maintain a successful track record of high-impact publications in prominent journals in broad areas of brain health with translation to clinical and population health impact.
  • Partner as a senior faculty member to the Adult Division Research Director, advancing research infrastructure within the Adult Psychiatry division, mentoring and growing junior researchers inside and outside the lab.
  • Build bridges between the Department of Psychiatry and the Colorado School of Public Health and the Center for Global Health.
