About The Position

Stephens College invites applicants for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Counseling. The Stephens College Counseling Program offers the Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree with specializations in Clinical Mental Health (CMHC) and School Counseling (SC). The successful applicant’s primary responsibility will be teaching courses in the core curriculum and CMHC specialization area. While quality teaching is the primary focus, the successful applicant will be expected to maintain active research/creative activity and service agendas and will be encouraged and supported in these endeavors. The successful candidate will facilitate work and classroom environments that encourage the knowledge of, respect for, and active engagement with individuals and groups from diverse cultures and backgrounds. The Counseling program’s vision is training counselors that strive to be lifelong learners who recognize the possibility for growth in all humans, and who are leaders in the field of counseling. The mission of the Stephens College Counseling program is to prepare ethically, culturally, and clinically competent professional counselors through evidence-based curriculums that address counseling skills, theory, technique, professional counselor identity, wellness, cultural competence/social justice, and ethics. Program graduates are well prepared to work in a pluralistic society serving diverse students and clientele within and across public and private schools and mental/behavioral health systems and organizations. Graduates of the Stephens Counseling Program are eligible for licensure and/or certification as school counselors in the State of Missouri and are prepared to work with diverse clientele in schools and community agencies.

Requirements

Earned doctorate in Counseling Education from a CACREP-accredited program. ABD considered with completion expected by August 2027.
Evidence of graduate level teaching experience in counseling core curriculum and CMHC specialization areas.
Content and working knowledge of CACREP standards and process.
Record of, or documented potential for, successful research/creative activity and publication at the state, regional, national, and/or international level.

Nice To Haves

Evidence of 2-3 years of successful graduate level teaching experience in counseling core and CMHC area.
Minimum of 2-3 years of successful experience as a licensed counselor and supervisor.

Responsibilities

Teach courses across the counseling core curriculum and CMHC specialization area.
Student advisement and mentorship.
Service to the Counseling program/discipline and Stephens College.
Assist Director of Counseling with responsibilities related to CACREP-accreditation as needed.
