About The Position

Under the direction of the Chair, Architecture, Construction and Civil, the Professor will be required to teach courses in the General Carpentry Apprenticeship program within the Algonquin Center for Construction Excellence. The Professor will be responsible for facilitating and guiding learning and providing an effective learning environment for all students. This is a general recruitment call for those interested in teaching. Applicants will be contacted when teaching opportunities are identified.

Requirements

403A Red Seal General Carpenter Certificate of Qualification
Minimum five (5) years in the field of General Carpentry
Minimum two (2) years of teaching experience, or equivalent, preferably in a postsecondary setting is considered an asset but not required

Nice To Haves

Industry experience in Commercial Estimating
Industry experience in Commercial Form Work
Industry experience in Plans, Specifications and Codes

Responsibilities

Design/revision/updating of courses, including consulting with program and course administrators, advisory committees, employers, and students; defining and validating learning outcomes; specifying and approving learning approaches and resources; incorporating educational technologies; and reviewing and revising curriculum.
Teaching assigned courses, including delivery of instruction, ensuring student awareness of learning outcomes and evaluation techniques, providing tutoring and academic advising, utilizing available resources and educational technologies, evaluating student progress, and assuming responsibility for overall assessment.
Developing and creating a learning environment conducive to student success.
Providing academic leadership, including participating in meetings, liaising with community members, engaging in program promotion, remaining current in the field of study, and maintaining awareness of emerging trends in teaching and learning.
