About The Position

Mohawk College is seeking a qualified candidate for a full-time Professor position in Computer Science. The role involves instructing students in various Computer Science and Information Technology programs, as well as advanced diploma and degree programs. The successful candidate will possess a student-centric attitude, the ability to teach a wide range of undergraduate computer science classes including Python, Java, .NET, server-side web programming, Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Data Management for AI, and Internet of Things. The professor will also instruct on Cybersecurity concepts such as asset security, auditing, security strategy, identity and access management, software development, and security efficacy frameworks. Depending on business needs, foundational programming may also be taught to other networking and software programs. The position requires an ability and interest in developing, maintaining, and enhancing course materials to stay current with industry standards.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science
  • Recognized industry certifications in networking, cloud computing AI and/or security
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to relate theoretical knowledge and practical applications through innovative delivery methods to provide a meaningful learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds and ages
  • Learner-centred approach and to assist in the development and application of alternate delivery methods
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility
  • The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D is an asset
  • Experience teaching at the post-secondary level (college or university) is strongly preferred
  • Five or more years of industry experience (non-academic) is preferred
  • Experience in conducting independent research is preferred, and there will be an expectation in the role to develop and engage in original research

  • Teaching the theory and practical application components
  • Creating a positive and innovative student-centered learning environment in both the classroom and laboratory settings
  • Using a variety of teaching strategies most appropriate for the curriculum for both postsecondary and apprentices
  • Using a variety of techniques to evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes
  • Managing the educational environment to facilitate an optimal learning experience and student success
  • Evaluating, revising and developing learning resources within the program
  • Enhancing educational delivery and experiences through the use of technology to facilitate student learning
  • Applying college values and philosophy in work activities and interaction with others
  • Using the college’s learning management system to present curriculum, testing and online activities
  • Delivering a mix of courses that are online, hybrid, and in person depending upon operational work assignments
  • Other duties as assigned
