The D epartment of Microbiology, Immunology and Biochemistry at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center seeks outstanding researchers for the position of Professor and Department Chair. We seek candidates to complement and extend departmental and campus-wide research in the areas of infectious diseases and host-pathogen interactions, leveraging the resources of the UT Health Science Center Research Biocontainment Laboratory. This is a 30% part-time leadership position. Responsibilities Department chair oversees all areas of the department: finances, education, research and services. This position also has responsibilities for faculty recruitment, promotion, and annual evaluation. Expectations include maintaining a vigorous externally funded research program, providing exemplary mentorship, and contributing to the teaching mission of the department. Successful candidates will have outstanding opportunities to develop collaborations within the department and the UT Health Science Center campus. Qualifications EDUCATION: Ph.D., MD., or equivalent degree. EXPERIENCE: Candidates must have a sustained track record of maintaining a rigorous, independent, and federally funded research program. Experience working in a BSL3 laboratory facility is required. Previous experience in academic and/or research leadership positions is expected. (Immunology, microbiology, or host-pathogen interactions preferred. Research investigating infectious disease in BSL2 and BSL3 facilities preferred.)
