About The Position

UPMC Passavant is hiring a full-time Professional Staff Nurse to support the 4 South Surgical Progressive Care Unit at its McCandless location. The unit has 24 private beds and cares for patients who need a higher level of care than medical-surgical floors provide but do not require ICU-level care. Typical patients include people recovering from vascular or open-heart surgery, heart catheterization, or defibrillator/pacemaker insertion; patients with CHF or cardiac arrhythmias requiring medication to control heart rate; and patients experiencing stroke, needing high oxygen levels, or receiving IV insulin drips.

The Professional Staff Nurse provides patient-centered care within a Relationship-Based Care framework, collaborates with the healthcare team, and supports patients and families through education and care. This position is a step in UPMC’s nursing career ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement. Title and salary are determined based on education and nursing experience. Requirements

• Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
• CPR certification meeting AHA standards, including didactic and skills-demonstration components, within 30 days of hire.
• Complete the licensure examination within four months of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIH).
• Registered Nurse (RN) or Temporary Practice Permit (TPP), as applicable.
• Act 34 clearance.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients and families.
• Ability to work effectively in a complex environment, manage multiple or changing priorities, and use specialized equipment.
• Critical-thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities related to patient care.
• Good clinical judgment.
• Critical-thinking skills to apply and lead others in applying the nursing process.
• Mobility and visual manual dexterity, with physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning patients.
