About The Position

The St. Johns River Water Management District is an environmental agency focused on ensuring a long-term supply of drinking water and protecting/restoring the health of water bodies within its 18 counties in northeast and east-central Florida. The Bureau of District Projects and Construction is responsible for the design and implementation of projects that align with the District's missions. Requirements

  • Professional Engineer (Florida) license in civil or water resource/environmental engineering, or the ability to obtain licensure in Florida within one year of employment.
  • Valid State of Florida Driver’s License.
  • Proficiency in technical writing and other forms of written and verbal communication and presentation.
  • Skills in leadership, planning, developing, and implementing scopes of work for complex engineering processes.
  • Ability to apply analytical problem-solving skills and exercise professional judgment to solve technical problems.
  • Ability to review work products for adequacy in meeting objectives, application of sound professional judgment, and adherence to District and State standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the use of specialized computer engineering applications such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and ArcPro for civil, or geotechnical engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Develops workplans, monitors project progress, and assists in project completion.
  • Prepares detailed designs, including plans and specifications for District projects.
  • Functions as the engineer of record for complex engineering design projects.
  • Performs technical reviews of designs prepared by staff and revises them to meet standards and best engineering practices.
  • May manage activities of design technician and drafting staff.
  • Reviews and comments on design documents, including plans and specifications, received from external entities and District consulting engineers.
  • Provides technical engineering information to other agencies and consultants on the design of District projects.
  • Communicates with District staff and external stakeholders.
  • Handles general administration and participation in project planning and budgeting.
  • May perform contract administration duties such as developing scopes of work, evaluating proposals, reviewing shop drawings, and reviewing invoices.
  • Evaluates the need for project design and related work.
  • Develops projects in conjunction with other work units according to the project delivery process.
