About The Position

The North Carolina Arts Council is seeking a well-rounded Professional Development Manager to join our team! The Professional Development Manager manages professional development content and technical support for the programs of the Arts Learning team, including A+ Schools of North Carolina, teaching artist engagements, and other arts in education training experiences offered around the state. This position is responsible for developing, reviewing/evaluating, and sometimes teaching professional development and training content in various formats such as workshops and conferences (both in-person and virtual), asynchronous on-line training modules, documents, and other resources. This position is a member of the Arts Learning Team and assists the Senior Program Director for Arts Learning in overall program strategy and planning, as required. This position requires communication with NC Department of Public Instruction as well as other education partners in the state and throughout the nation in order to keep abreast with current trends, opportunities, and policies in the education field.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in art, English, one of the performing arts, or arts administration, depending upon specific area of program assignment, from an appropriately accredited institution and Two years of experience in arts program administration or development work, one of which may be as a professional artist in a field directly related to the area of program assignment; or An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all content for professional development and training sessions for educators and school administrators provided by the Arts Learning Team to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Develops agendas for in-person and virtual professional development events, conferences, and leadership meetings.
  • Attends professional development events and conferences to coordinate and evaluate Arts Learning Team practice and processes.
  • Develops and reviews written training materials and other forms of asynchronous PD content.
  • Reviews and revises internal processes related to the delivery of professional development.
  • Stays abreast with current state and national education trends and integrating relevant information into professional development, both in terms of content and delivery method.
  • Assist Senior Director for Arts in Learning in the ongoing professional development of the group of 40-50 A+ Fellows.
  • Works in collaboration with Senior Program Director for Arts Learning to develop agendas, processes, and supporting documents for A+ Fellows planning meetings and training activities.
  • Assists with the recruitment and onboarding of new A+ Fellows every other year.
  • Stay up to date on current trends in teacher training and support more broadly, including the schools of education at NC universities and colleges.
  • Assist other teams at the N.C. Arts Council to design professional development experiences for arts leaders and artists as needed.
  • Manage, update, and maintain current library of online tools and resources available to the A+ network and other school leaders.
  • Maintain and review the A+ online educational resource, A+ U, working to update, as needed to assure relevance, quality, and current content.
  • Provide customized technical assistance and coaching to constituents as needed.
  • Attend all Arts Council full staff meetings, Arts Learning Team meetings and participate in other meetings as required.
  • Partner with the Department of Public Instruction and the statewide network of district arts coordinators, attending meetings and conferences to better understand the needs of the field.
  • Attend the Arts Education Partnership national conference.
