About The Position

This is a new position for a Regular Part-Time Professor in Elementary German I (ALG1901B) for the Fall 2026 semester within the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the Faculty of Arts. The course focuses on basic skills in German, including conversation, reading, writing, basic grammar, and intercultural communication. It is the first part of a sequence designed to prepare students for the Goethe Institute's Certificate of German exam. The course is expected to have an enrolment of 35 students and is worth 3 credits. The instruction will be in German and English, with a required competence in a second language (active). The course will be offered in person on Tuesdays from 13:00 to 14:30 and Thursdays from 11:30 to 13:00. The hiring process will be governed by the current APTPUO collective agreements. Requirements

  • Master's degree in German or equivalent.
  • Recent experience in teaching introductory German.
  • Recent experience in computer-assisted language learning (CALL) or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with the most recent teaching methodologies in teaching German.
  • Bilingual (French and English).
  • Competence in second language: Active.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Elementary German I (ALG1901B)
  • Develop and deliver curriculum focusing on basic skills in German: conversation, reading, writing, grammar, and intercultural communication.
  • Prepare students for the Goethe Institute's exam towards the Certificate of German.
  • Utilize computer-assisted language learning (CALL) methods.
  • Stay familiar with recent teaching methodologies in teaching German.
  • Potentially complete mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.
