About The Position

Perfetti Van Melle, a leading global manufacturer of confectionery and chewing gum, is seeking an enthusiastic Production Technician to join their team. This role is part of an Integrated Work Systems (IWS) framework, focusing on continuous improvement, employee ownership, problem-solving, and skill development to enhance operational efficiency and equipment ownership. The Technician will be responsible for operating and monitoring packaging equipment, ensuring product quality, performing troubleshooting, and maintaining a safe and clean work environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to work overtime hours above the normal schedule.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem analysis skills.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Uniform, Hairnet, Beard net, and Mask when required.
  • Ability to wear and use breathing protection devices as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Ability to talk, hear, and smell.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to occasionally push/pull 350-pound carts with wheels.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • Occasionally exposed to dusty conditions due to the handling of bulk products.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in Integrated Work Systems (IWS) to improve efficiency, ownership, and skill development.
  • Demonstrate proficiency through training, assessments, observations, and certifications for assigned work areas/equipment.
  • Support continuous improvement by applying learned skills, following standards, identifying losses, and contributing to team goals.
  • Efficiently and safely operate and monitor all packaging equipment to maintain product flow.
  • Perform package integrity and quality checks (metal detection, seals, code date, product weight, case counts/weights).
  • Monitor and maintain correct product/case weights.
  • Handle scrap and waste from machines as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot equipment to ensure continuous operation.
  • Perform data entry into the computer.
  • Work in a safe and responsible manner, preventing accidents and equipment damage.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, including shift hand-offs and shutdown/sanitation processes.
  • Operate floor scrubbers and other cleaning devices.
  • Adhere to all safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) policies and promote safe work practices.
  • Notify maintenance or supervisor when a line or piece of equipment is down.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Be flexible in learning and working in other job functions.
