Hand Solder 1 - 2nd shift

Celestica•Maple Grove, MN
•Onsite

About The Position

The Production Technical Operator 3 operates soldering equipment and performs soldering, cleaning, rework, and fabrication of parts, components, and subassemblies for production. Work includes using scopes, basic hand tools, and specialized devices to produce and inspect components and assemblies. The role also includes hand soldering under a scope, preparing wires and components, cleaning parts, and supporting production quality and equipment readiness. The operator selects and adds flux, cleans equipment, follows preventive maintenance schedules, and identifies when maintenance is needed for wave solder pallets. They set wave solder equipment parameters and configure selective soldering equipment according to applicable guidelines and preventive maintenance requirements. They review routings against prints, verify programs and revisions, and help ensure production meets print and routing requirements. They may measure and record product data, receive training on surface-mount equipment, and monitor floor-stock items such as solder paste and flux. The work is performed in support of Celestica–Maple Grove’s quality and documented requirements. Hand soldering involves repetitive hand motion and is performed while seated; machine soldering may involve standing, twisting, and stooping. The job involves working with and around chemicals. Pre-hire and biennial visual examinations are required, including verification of 20/20 visual acuity with or without glasses and a standard color-vision exam.

Requirements

  • Soldering experience in a manufacturing setting, including hand soldering and related machine soldering.

Responsibilities

  • Operate soldering equipment, including wave solder, vapor degreaser, selective solder, air-vac lead-free and leaded solder pots, SRT rework station, and special-parts preparation equipment.
  • Solder, clean, rework, and fabricate parts, components, and subassemblies using scopes, basic hand tools, and special devices.
  • Select and add flux, clean equipment, follow preventive maintenance schedules, and identify when wave solder pallets need maintenance.
  • Set wave solder height, width, and conveyor speed.
  • Set up and follow applicable guidelines and preventive maintenance requirements for the selective soldering machine.
  • Review routings against prints for consistency and ensure correct programs and revisions are specified on routers.
  • Perform periodic hand soldering under a scope for solder touch-up and review of solder joints.
  • Use basic hand tools, special fasteners, a soldering iron, and measuring devices; measure and record product data when required.
  • Prepare wire by cutting, stripping, twisting, and tinning; solder or fasten wires, cables, resistors, capacitors, and other components to printed wiring boards, connectors, and assemblies.
  • Clean parts and hand-placed components during production processes.
