About The Position

The Production Supervisor is responsible for supervising the efficient operations of production, packaging, and sanitation at the Chaseburg Creamery. Success is measured by improvement of personnel and food safety metrics, while also improving productivity, quality metrics and increasing the operator's sense of ownership of systems. Ensuring production is performed in accordance with Organic Valley’s high standards for food safety and quality by providing oversight of intake, HTST, and butter operations. This role promotes collaboration and teamwork within and between production, maintenance, and quality staff as well as other support staff to foster motivation, increased productivity, and ensure the highest level of quality, and customer service. This position will require flexibility to work holidays, weekends, or during other non-standard hours as needed to meet operational demands. This will include rotational on call as required for holiday, weekends, vacation, and absence coverage. This is a safety sensitive role in a 24/7; 365 dairy processing operation.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in dairy manufacturing, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or lead role.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Working knowledge of the certification standards applied to Chaseburg Creamery, including Kosher, DATCP, USDA, Organic, FDA, FSMA, BRCGS, Halal, Validus, Grassmilk, Military and Organic Valley/CROPP Cooperative policies.
  • Ability to frequently lift/carry up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift (up to) 80 pounds with assistance, ability to push/pull up to 2,500 pounds using material handling equipment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to occasionally bend, twist/turn, reach above shoulders, and climb throughout the shift as needed.
  • Ability to multitask and operate under pressure.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and quality management systems (HACCP, GMP, SQF, BRCGS, etc.).
  • Developed oral and written communication and comprehension skills.
  • Proven proficiency with inductive and deductive reasoning, problem solving and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work in a team environment providing strong leadership and communication.
  • Good computer skills required; ability to use software/computers - SAP, Ignition, Limble, iOffice, Microsoft office suite, etc.
  • Represent Organic Valley professionally during audits and inspections by demonstrating thorough preparation, transparency, and adherence to applicable codes including company policies and procedures.
  • Respond promptly and respectfully to inquiries from internal stakeholders.
  • Complete required annual and periodic trainings in accordance with Organic Valley policies.
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a professional and appropriate manner.
  • Ability to read and interpret critical information and follow specific instructions.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • technical, associates, or higher degree in a related field preferred.
  • Certification in food safety (e.g., PCQI, HACCP) is a plus.
  • Wisconsin Certification/Licensing in Pasteurization, Industry Supervisor (Antibiotics), Butter Making, and/or Cheese Making is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a culture of safety awareness and compliance among all employees.
  • Conduct regular safety training sessions and drills to educate employees on safety protocols and procedures.
  • Investigate accidents and near-misses to identify root causes and implement preventive measures.
  • Ensure that all safety equipment is properly maintained and readily available for use.
  • Enforce rigorous food safety protocols in accordance with FDA, USDA, WDATCP, and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure staff members are working in compliance of HACCP program and BRC audit guidelines.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify and mitigate potential food safety risks.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety program by conducting verification and validation of production records and documentation on a scheduled basis.
  • Address and resolve exceptions to the food safety program by implementing corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance food safety practices.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation and records related to food safety procedures and compliance.
  • Uphold strict quality control standards throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure adherence to product specifications and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance team to ensure timely product testing, analysis, and address any quality issues promptly.
  • Implement preventive measures to minimize product defects and non-conformities.
  • Communicates performance expectations by evaluating performance, providing timely feedback, training, and coaching, and recommending personnel actions for assigned staff.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable policies, safety practices, and fair employment practices.
  • Ensure that staff follows good manufacturing, safety, and quality assurance policies and practices.
  • Support in scheduling, directing, training, auditing, and coordinating the work activities and resources necessary for the operation of Chaseburg Creamery.
  • Collaborate with plant management and schedulers to continuously improve production processes and quality at Chaseburg Creamery.
  • Assists in coordinating production and processing of dairy products at Chaseburg Creamery to meet the cooperative’s production/quality requirements.
  • Assists in establishing/monitoring measurable criteria to ensure desired results are obtained and provides management with updates via tracking reports reflective of Key Performance Indicators in line with set priorities and timing targets.
  • The supervisor may be required to step into production roles or provide direct support to production operators to ensure the continuity of operations during staffing shortages or high demand periods.
  • Handles confidential information with discretion.
  • Ensure food safety, maintenance, and production records are completed accurately and timely.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
