About The Position

Lumbermen’s, a leading distributor and manufacturer headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is seeking a Production Supervisor for their Byron Center office. This role is responsible for ensuring the timely completion of customer orders and overseeing the overall safety, quality, on-time delivery, and cost optimization of their team's operations. The Production Supervisor will be responsible for tracking performance metrics daily, weekly, and monthly, and leading the team in developing corrective actions. They will also be responsible for fostering a positive team culture, leading by example, and developing both themselves and their team members. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, service-minded, a strong and friendly communicator, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the timely completion of customer orders.
  • Oversee the overall safety of their team, quality of incoming and outgoing products, on-time delivery of internal work or customer orders, and optimization of all costs associated with the operation.
  • Track and report performance daily, weekly, and monthly.
  • Develop and implement robust and sustainable corrective actions.
  • Own each safety event and foster a culture of safe behaviors.
  • Ensure documented Job Safety Analyses for each operation.
  • Execute strategies to improve department safety performance.
  • Ensure the overall quality of finished product and address internal defects.
  • Ensure documented cyclical and non-cyclical standard work for each operation.
  • Track and trend internal incoming quality defects and address them with supplying departments/leaders.
  • Understand external customer defects and support corrective action planning.
  • Execute strategies to improve department defective parts per thousand (DPPT) performance.
  • Understand daily production schedules and develop strategies to meet all internal and customer deliveries.
  • Understand daily customer demand and execute strategies to complete daily schedules.
  • Prepare staffing plans daily and align with the Operations Manager on training plans, staffing recommendations, and strategies to accomplish daily schedules.
  • Execute strategies to improve department on-time delivery performance.
  • Control direct and variable costs within their department, focusing on labor performance to standard and scrap performance.
  • Understand daily scrap performance by work cell, have detailed root cause and corrective action.
  • Understand controllable costs and develop strategies to reduce unnecessary spending.
  • Understand inventory accuracy and cycle count accuracy of each storeroom.
  • Execute strategies to improve department cost performance.
  • Foster a positive team culture and lead by example.
  • Develop and implement improvement plans for team culture.
  • Execute a daily communication process to highlight prior day performance (SQDC) to team members.
  • Communicate company policies, key events, and general information to team members.
  • Develop personal action plans for self-development, aligned with the Operations Manager.
  • Support process development, communication, and evolution of team member roles by coaching individuals.
  • Be an influential leader that develops peers and others within the department.
