About The Position

This role oversees and monitors the day-to-day operations of assigned production areas, ensuring smooth workflow, efficient production, and adherence to schedules. The Production Supervisor I is responsible for managing work in progress, job assignments, and employee rotations. They participate in the scheduling process, communicate schedules to Leads and employees, and produce daily production reports to track schedule adherence and efficiencies. This position ensures key performance indicators are met or exceeded, collaborates with other departments for necessary resources, and works with other supervisors to resolve common issues and foster teamwork across shifts. The role also involves monitoring product quality, ensuring compliance with safety and quality policies, participating in continuous improvement initiatives, and supporting positive employee relations through fair treatment, respect, and addressing employee concerns. The supervisor actively engages in team performance through objective setting, measurement, guidance, and coaching, and participates in Tier II meetings, aligning team objectives with operating tenets and complying with safety and GMP requirements.

Requirements

Associate’s degree OR at least three years' related experience in a food manufacturing or GMP environment OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Prior lead experience and/or supervisory experience in a GMP environment required.
Intermediate Word and Excel skills required.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees or visitors.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and metric or volume to weight conversions.
Effectively coordinates and leads team in daily activities to meet key performance indicators set by manager, with strong emphasis on employees, safety, food safety and quality.
Displays real time critical decision making with available information.
Reviews current KPI’s to ensure right metrics are being monitored with the right results being delivered.
Monitors specific performance and makes proactive decisions on staffing needs to ensure KPI metrics are met.
Drives employee based performance through employee involvement and participation, with guidance and coaching from manager.
Collaborates with other departments to ensure cross functional concerns are addressed in a timely and effective manner.
Visible and leads by example on the floor and models NOW’s core values, tenets and servant leadership.
Consistently follows all company policies and procedures, including all safety policies and procedures.
Ability to work at both the 391 AND 395 manufacturing facilities in Bloomingdale in Packaging and Processing.

Frequently exposed to herbal aromas, dust, and/or airborne particles, some classified as allergens or irritants.
Works in all areas of NOW’s manufacturing facilities with direct exposure to ingredients (powders and liquids), mixes (powders and liquids), equipment, and packaging.
Frequently exposed to all the FDA designated major food allergens (Milk, Eggs, Fish, Crustacean shellfish (e.g., crab, lobster, shrimp), Tree nuts (e.g., almonds, walnuts, pecans) except for peanuts, Wheat and Soybeans, Sesame.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree desired.
Experience in Lean Manufacturing including 5S and Lean Practices helpful.
Oral and written Spanish language skills are preferred.

Responsibilities

Oversees and monitors day-to-day operation of assigned area(s) including workflow, management of work in process, job assignments, rotations, etc. to insure smooth flow and efficient production.
Participates in the scheduling process including advance production schedule review to communicate issues in a proactive, timely manner for resolution; coordinates and communicates schedule to Leads and employees to assure daily production schedules are met.
Produces and reviews daily production reports for schedule adherence, efficiencies and other data; provide reports and information to manager and other designated personnel as required.
Ensures key performance indicators in the production area are met or exceeded. Measures productivity on a daily basis, with goal of meeting standards.
Collaborates with other departments to obtain supplies, products, equipment and services necessary to meet production schedules.
Works with other supervisors to solve common issues and develop teamwork among all shifts. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
Monitors product quality and works with Quality to ensure specifications are met. Monitors quality control as needed to determine that all products and packaging are neat, clean, and correctly packed and labeled.
Ensures that policies and procedures for safety and quality are followed and enforced.
Actively participates in root cause analysis and other plant continuous improvement initiatives. Recommends continuous improvement ideas.
Supports positive employee relations, fair treatment and respect in all aspects of interaction with employees; address employee concerns/requests in a timely and caring manner; insures all employees and ideas are respected and valued and their unique and diverse perspectives are leveraged to improve business results.

Ensures the completion of job safety analyses, safety inspections and employee training.
Acts as primary communicator of safe work practices and information to department.
Facilitates employees’ participation in the safety activity card program and on safety teams.
Completes incident investigation reports and submits them to manager by end of shift on which the incident is reported.
Conducts safety contacts and documents corrective and preventative actions.
Enforces company policies, procedures, SOP’s, SPP’s and safe work practices.
Directly supervises Production employees on the shift.
Supervises employees in compliance with all production rules, policies, government regulations, company health and safety rules and quality standards.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
