About The Position

The Production Stage Manager (PSM) serves as the operational linchpin for the Iona Players, Iona University’s student musical theatre ensemble. This leadership position bridges the gap between artistic vision and technical execution. The PSM oversees the organizational, logistical, and safety aspects of all rehearsals, technical integrations, and live performances. This role is a seasonal, part-time role and is ideal for a highly organized theater practitioner looking to gain hands-on management experience in a collaborative, collegiate environment.

  • Schedule Availability: Commitment to attend all evening rehearsals, technical run-throughs, and performances.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Audition Logistics: Coordinate space booking, distribute audition forms, and manage the schedule to ensure auditions run efficiently.
  • Establish Communication Channels: Create company contact sheets and set up central communication lines between cast, crew, and creative staff.
  • Schedule Operations: Distribute daily and weekly rehearsal schedules in coordination with the Director of Performing Arts, Show Director and Music Director.
  • Maintain the Prompt Book: Record blocking, tracking, line alterations, and initial technical notes in a master script or "production bible".
  • Issue Rehearsal Reports: Document and distribute detailed notes on attendance, script changes, tracking updates, and evolving department needs after every rehearsal.
  • Run Production Meetings: Facilitate regular check-ins with design and technical departments to ensure deadlines remain on track.
  • Oversee Technical Rehearsals: Coordinate the smooth integration of scenic changes, lighting cues, sound design, orchestra/tracks, and costumes.
  • Manage Backstage Operations: Supervise the stage crew, coordinate actor check-ins, maintain backstage safety protocols, and run fight/dance calls before curtain.
