About The Position

This position is responsible for the safe execution of all planning, scheduling, and progress reporting activities supporting ship newbuilding and major marine construction programs in accordance with the company's overall safety goals, objectives and policies. The role involves directing and overseeing the development of the integrated master schedule from contract award through engineering, procurement, fabrication, testing, trials, delivery, and warranty support. A key aspect is maximizing financial returns on capital resources through effective schedule optimization, resource leveling, and program execution planning, ensuring newbuilding programs are planned and executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all contractual requirements. The manager will continuously monitor build strategy, work sequencing, resource loading, and facility capacity to ensure capability to meet current and future program requirements. This role requires close collaboration with Corporate and Senior Management, Production, Engineering, Procurement, and project management personnel to ensure efficient integration and sequencing of all program activities, while also ensuring compliance with the Gulf Copper Mission Statement and Quality Management System. The position plans, directs, and coordinates all scheduling, progress measurement, and reporting aspects of shipbuilding and marine construction operations, establishing and maintaining the work breakdown structure, master and detailed production schedules, performance metrics, and reporting systems for all assigned projects. The role also involves reviewing schedule impacts of major contracts, subcontract agreements, and change orders, ensuring customer contract milestones are effectively tracked and reported, and overseeing earned value management, progress measurement, and schedule risk analysis. Compliance with all applicable regulatory, classification society, environmental, and customer schedule reporting requirements is essential. The manager will develop and maintain strong working relationships with various departments and external partners, ensuring material readiness and kitting sequence align with the production schedule. Additionally, the role includes interviewing, hiring, developing, and retaining planning and scheduling personnel, providing leadership, motivation, guidance, performance evaluations, coaching, and professional development for direct reports. The manager will also lead strategic planning efforts related to scheduling systems, planning process improvement, workforce development, and capital investments, promoting a culture of accountability, teamwork, innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible planning, scheduling, or project controls experience in shipbuilding, vessel construction, heavy industrial construction, offshore fabrication, or marine project management.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing integrated master schedules for large, complex newbuild vessel programs and multidiscipline project teams.
  • Proficiency with scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project) and earned value management principles.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee development of the integrated master schedule from contract award through engineering, procurement, fabrication, assembly, testing, trials, delivery, and warranty support.
  • Maximize financial returns on capital resources through effective schedule optimization, resource leveling, and program execution planning.
  • Ensure newbuilding programs are planned and executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all contractual requirements.
  • Continuously monitor build strategy, work sequencing, resource loading, and facility capacity to ensure capability to meet current and future program requirements.
  • Work closely with Corporate and Senior Management, Production, Engineering, Procurement, and project management personnel to ensure efficient integration and sequencing of all program activities.
  • Ensure compliance with Gulf Copper Mission Statement and Quality Management System.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate all scheduling, progress measurement, and reporting aspects of shipbuilding and marine construction operations.
  • Establish and maintain the work breakdown structure, master and detailed production schedules, performance metrics, and reporting systems for all assigned projects.
  • Review schedule impacts of major contracts, subcontract agreements, and change orders in conjunction with Corporate Legal Counsel and Program Management prior to execution.
  • Ensure customer contract milestones are effectively tracked and reported to maximize safety, quality, profitability, schedule performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee earned value management, progress measurement, and schedule risk analysis across engineering, procurement, production, and commissioning activities to ensure successful vessel delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, classification society, environmental, and customer schedule reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Production, Production Engineering, Procurement, subcontractors, and the Project Management Office to ensure alignment on schedule and sequencing.
  • Ensure material readiness and kitting sequence align with the production schedule in coordination with Supply Chain and Procurement.
  • In coordination with the Corporate Human Resources Department, interview, hire, develop, and retain planning and scheduling personnel supporting shipbuilding and construction programs.
  • Provide leadership, motivation, guidance, performance evaluations, coaching, and professional development for direct reports and their subordinate teams.
  • Lead strategic planning efforts related to scheduling systems, planning process improvement, workforce development, and capital investments affecting schedule capability.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence throughout all planning and scheduling activities.
