About The Position

The Production Operator III is responsible for operating packaging machines and automation equipment, maintaining quality and production rates, and troubleshooting minor mechanical issues. This role also involves adhering to strict health, safety, and quality guidelines, including GMPs and SQF standards, particularly at SQF certified sites. The operator will perform basic sanitation functions, identify and address food safety and quality issues, and follow specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to product holds and non-conforming products. A thorough understanding of all company policies, including GMPs, safety, HACCP, and SQF, is required. The role also involves wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean and safe work area.

Requirements

  • High School or Vo-Tech School graduate and 5+ years production operations experience.
  • 2-year technical degree or 3-5 years’ experience with machines that perform one or more packaging functions, both assembly and downstream packaging automation equipment.
  • Log in to DELMIAWorks (formerly IQMS) and enter production data and complete production forms (batch record).
  • Read, understand and follow documents such as safety rules, operating & maintenance instructions, and procedures.
  • Apply basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or visual/diagram form.
  • Self-motivated, conscientious, with a results-oriented mindset.
  • Good organizational and communication skills to work independently and also in a team environment.
  • Ability to use measuring devices such as Comparator, Dial indicator, Go/No Go gauges.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and demands.
  • Strong technical aptitude, as well as analytical and problem-solving skills to trouble shoot and solve problems.
  • Sound judgment - ability to work efficiently with many competing demands.
  • Ability to speak clearly and effectively before groups of employees, customers and auditors as needed.
  • The ability to read, write, and comprehend information provided.
  • Stand for most of the work shift.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, crouch, bend, twist, and only occasionally sit.
  • Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Heavier amounts can be moved with assistance of equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in an ISO 9001 and/or 13485 manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading process improvement initiatives or projects.
  • Knowledge of and/or previous experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus!

Responsibilities

  • Set up, start up, and run machines that perform packaging functions, including assembly and downstream packaging automation equipment.
  • Operate equipment effectively to maintain good quality and high production rates.
  • Establish process parameters in secondary operations equipment.
  • Use hand tools and air tools for sampling, setup, startup, and production functions.
  • Troubleshoot and fix minor mechanical issues.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Adhere to and communicate plant Health, Safety, and Quality guidelines and GMPs.
  • Perform basic sanitation functions.
  • Notify SQF Practitioner and/or Supervisor of any repairs or adjustments required.
  • Notify SQF Practitioner/Quality Manager or any other Management personnel of ANY Food Safety or Quality issues.
  • Identify problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of raw material, processes, quality system, or safety system by performing Production/Quality Checks.
  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Execute and follow the HOLD SOP, controlling further processing or delivery of nonconforming product until corrected.
  • Follow all Food Fraud/Food Defense Policies.
  • Wear company-issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as uniforms, gloves, and hairnets.
  • Onboard, develop, and train Production Operator I & II.
  • Prioritize, plan, organize, and coordinate work with Production Operator I & II.
  • Lead quality improvement projects.
  • Effectively communicate with supervisor.
