About The Position

This role is for a 2nd Shift Production Mechanic responsible for maintaining and repairing manufacturing and packaging machinery. The position requires a strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to safety and quality standards. The mechanic will be expected to troubleshoot breakdowns, fabricate parts, operate shop equipment, and understand various mechanical and electrical systems. Adherence to company policies, GMP, safety programs, and labor agreements is essential. The role also involves clear communication with colleagues, supervisors, management, and external vendors, as well as meticulous documentation of repairs and root cause analysis.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years experience with manufacturing and packaging machinery
  • Mechanical aptitude to utilize hand tools, basic electric tools and measuring devices without supervision
  • Ability to read and write English
  • Working knowledge of pumps, bearings, bushings, power transmissions, vacuum, pneumatic, cooling systems and components
  • Complete knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations including but not limited to LO/TO, hoist, electrical, guarding, PPE, etc.
  • Math skills to calculate basic math, geometry layout, distance/area/volume, tolerance computation, metric, and standard conversations
  • Function with little supervision
  • High school education with a diploma or be able to demonstrate knowledge consistent with the level of education
  • Computer literate with standard MS Windows software (word, Excel)

Nice To Haves

  • Trade school or technical degree preferred
  • Understanding of the operating details of converting and packaging equipment within the department
  • General knowledge of soap processing equipment and soap characteristics as they are related to the efficient operation of the converting and packaging equipment
  • General knowledge of packing material characteristics
  • Understanding of quality parameters as they relate to the finished product

Responsibilities

  • Repair equipment to OEM standards and specifications
  • Independent setup of line configurations in accordance to manufacturing and quality specifications
  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics, piping and control diagrams
  • Complete work orders; request new work orders, communicate verbally and in writing
  • Fabricate new parts via duplication of existing or from blueprint
  • Weld, braze, and operate acetylene torches
  • Operate standard shop equipment including lathe, milling machine, drill press, etc.
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns of machinery
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, methods, and standards in adherence with Good Manufacturing Procedures (GMP)
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, methods, and standards in adherence with Safety program
  • Follow bargaining unit Labor agreement in accordance with company objectives
  • Maintain an acceptable level of orderliness and cleanliness in areas of assigned work
  • Observe all safe practices within the department
  • Coordinate with vendors, OEMs, and company representatives
  • Decipher root cause failure, repair machinery, and document condition with corrective action
