The Production Manager, VISSC is responsible for ensuring that the production work assigned to their zone is completed on time and as per customer requirements. The Production Manager, VISSC possesses a specialization in one of the following trades; electrical, welding, pipefitting, mechanical, ship fitting or sheet metal and works closely with the Submarine Senior Production Manager in the management of the project. This role encompasses a wide level of responsibility, dependent on the incumbent’s experience, training and skills. Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 825 Admirals Road, Victoria. The incumbent reports directly to the Submarine Senior Production Manager. The Production Manager, VISSC supervises a minimum of 25 unionized employees. The Zone Production Manager must ensure that all production work in one of the Submarine zones (Forward, Aft, or Exterior) is completed. This is a front line supervisory position that is responsible for planning and coordinating daily activities of the project such as assigning work, scheduling hours, checking work, and maintaining workflow as well as planning for future projects. Additional coordination is also required to complete these tasks and plan operational needs involving varied departments outside of the incumbent’s specialty. The position is dynamic requiring a continual reassessment of operation needs, project planning and constant shifting of priorities, while adhering to Company policies such as safety and regulatory requirements. Due to the hostile environment in which the Submarine operates, Quality Assurance standards are set very high. Errors or misjudgment in executing production work could result in lost productivity, delays, dissatisfied customers and personnel, and financial losses. Communications Internal The incumbent communicates with all levels of unionized and non-unionized supervision and trades personnel at Victoria Shipyards on a frequent basis. The Production Manager, VISSC provides a leadership role for all employees and ensures that company and corporate policies, procedures and objectives are met while directing the workforce. External The Production Manager, VISSC may also communicate with Babcock Canada personnel, technical and regulatory authorities, and contractors in the administration of their duties.
