Summer 2027 Production and Maintenance interns gain firsthand exposure to the work required to build and maintain complex commercial and government vessels while developing technical skills, workplace safety knowledge, and an understanding of shipyard operations. Opportunities are available in Welding and Maintenance. Specific responsibilities vary by assignment, experience level, and department needs. Interns gain hands-on experience in a large-scale shipbuilding and industrial environment, work alongside skilled trades professionals, apply skills from academic or technical programs, and learn about shipbuilding tools, equipment, processes, and safety practices. They assist with production or maintenance activities appropriate to their experience and skill level, learn industrial quality and safety expectations, and develop technical and professional skills through hands-on assignments and structured development opportunities. Interns also participate in networking, professional development, and other program activities, and explore career paths in skilled trades, production, maintenance, and shipbuilding. Candidates are considered for Welding or Maintenance placements based on their academic or technical program, experience, skills, interests, and departmental needs. Candidates selected for the Welding Internship must successfully complete and pass a welding test before beginning hands-on welding work.
