About The Position

Royal Canin is seeking a Production Line Manager to join our manufacturing plant in North Sioux City, SD. This is a shift-based, front-line operations people leader role focused on improving Human Safety, Product Quality, and Product Cost Conversion while Engaging and Developing talent. The manager will coordinate short-term activities within established guidelines to produce the highest quality, lowest cost product in the safest and most efficient manner. This role also partners with the Leadership Team to deliver continuous improvement and implement the Mars Supply Excellence (MSE) program. The Shift Manager is responsible for building an effective team on their shift, managing the training strategy, and leading an engaging culture of excellence.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree OR The equivalent experience, defined as greater than 4 years of experience in a technical manufacturing continuous improvement environment, along with a High School Diploma.
  • Strong Computer skills preferred (excel, MS Outlook, Word etc.)

  • Previous direct people leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience in plant sanitation practices and procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • A degree in one of the Engineering, basic sciences, or business-related disciplines.
  • Food Manufacturing experience preferred (knowledge of good manufacturing practices, HACCP, ISO standards)

Responsibilities

  • Manage associate relations issues and guide and direct the hiring, training, development, and motivation of Operations associates.
  • Collaborate with the Area Leadership Team to create and execute the reliability strategy for the area.
  • Coach operators and peers to build their technical, functional, and leadership capabilities to drive accountability in Safety, Quality and Food Safety, TRS, Autonomous Maintenance, and team engagement.
  • Implement changes in methods, equipment, systems, and organization to assure that the objectives of the lines are met, providing input and recommendations for such changes with a Continuous Improvement mindset.
  • Lead or participate in one or more MSE Pillars; Lead and support the implementation of Autonomous Maintenance (AM) and Autonomous Work Teams (AWTs) in the area of responsibility; Lead key connection points and own reliability data collection accuracy.
  • Ensure safe working conditions as well as safe behaviors and mindsets through the direct implementation of Mars Safety programs and by driving a relentless focus among team of operators.
  • Ensure the ongoing production of safe and defect-free products consistent with the principles of Mars. HACCP proficiency is required; this manager owns ongoing training and championing of quality goals and improvements at the Shift level.
  • Establish line and individual performance standards and goals, measure, control, take corrective action, and report results as appropriate.
  • Utilize technical resources on shift for the preventive maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of process/packaging equipment problems to achieve desired performance levels.
  • Proactively identify risks and opportunities as well as reactively lead on-shift incident resolution when operators require additional support. Prioritize, assign resources against escalated issues, and make decisions to resolve escalated issues.
  • Ensure that open communications are established and that opportunities to broaden the scope and responsibility of Operations teams/associates are undertaken.
  • Lead/participate in the implementation of improvement strategies that will help the performance of the team.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to recruit and select associates for operations roles, and onboard associates effectively.
