About The Position

The role of the Production Group Lead is to lead, direct, and coordinate day-to-day production operations on an assigned shift by overseeing and ensuring standard operating procedures, organizational policies, and industry regulations. This role involves assisting the Production Supervisor with the management of Team Member production activities to achieve organizational goals, and coordinating, motivating, and supporting Team Members. The Production Group Lead is responsible for organizing and prioritizing the usage of labor, materials, and support services to meet quality standards and production schedules, providing technical guidance, coaching, training, and troubleshooting, and assisting in the resolution of personnel issues. They must ensure production goals and key performance indicators are achieved, and products are made to specifications and shipped on time. This role requires precise adherence to production schedules and the ability to effectively prioritize and adjust production based on business needs to ensure customer satisfaction, with prompt escalation of issues to the Production Supervisor. The Production Group Lead will implement and execute standard operating procedures, review and improve production processes, and communicate effectively with supervisors regarding material flow. They will also communicate goals and expectations to Team Members, collaborate with other departments, and serve as a role model for professionalism, continuous improvement, and ethical conduct. Fostering a culture of operational excellence, empowering Team Members, and ensuring proper use of equipment and PPE are key aspects of this role. Additionally, they will identify and present recommendations for improvements in applications, innovations, quality, and safety, and ensure compliance with all operational regulations. Promoting positive Team Member and customer relations, maintaining tolerance, acceptance, and civility, and responding appropriately to inquiries are also essential. Regular, consistent, reliable, punctual, and predictable attendance is required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic drawings and work orders, and follow directions.
  • Ability to use hand operated and power tools, and perform tasks with precision and manual dexterity.
  • Basic mechanical and mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), and ability to apply work material calculations utilizing a calculator.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain industrial equipment certifications (e.g., cranes, forklift, and power jack).
  • Ability to directly supervise/coach staff in teamwork and process improvement, foster quality focus and assist in development of Team Member skills.
  • Ability to build a culture of tolerance, acceptance, and civility by setting an example to staff.
  • Ability to positively interact and work collaboratively with a diverse group of people at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to work independently, without significant direction and to use resources effectively to “figure it out”.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, judgment and keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Exhibit flexibility in work schedule and perform beyond a normal workday.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
  • Ability to travel, as needed, for training purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Production Supervisor with the management of Team Member production activities to achieve organizational goals, and coordinate, motivate and support Team Members.
  • Organize and prioritize the usage of labor, materials, and support services to meet quality standards and production schedules.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, training, and troubleshooting.
  • Assist in the resolution of personnel issues, redirecting complex issues to supervision and HR in a timely manner.
  • Ensure production goals and key performance indicators are achieved, and products are made to specifications and shipped on time.
  • Precisely follow production schedule(s) and effectively prioritize and adjust production based on business needs to ensure customer satisfaction; promptly escalate issues to the Production Supervisor.
  • Implement and execute standard operating procedures for production operations, reviewing, determining, and implementing improvements to the production process, as needed.
  • Effectively communicate with supervisor(s) at beginning and end of shift regarding the flow of materials through the shop from receiving to shipping. Suggest recommendations for improvement, as needed.
  • Ensure effective communication of goals, objectives, and expectations to Team Members throughout assigned department, and collaborate with other departments and support personnel within and outside of the facility.
  • Serve as a role model in areas such as professionalism, service orientation, continuous improvement, and commitment to organizational goals and objectives.
  • Foster a culture that guides Team Members towards operational excellence while acting with integrity and ethics.
  • Create a work environment that empowers Team Members by actively recognizing, rewarding, and reinforcing accomplishments and positive actions.
  • Continuously ensure proper use of equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and take appropriate corrective measures when necessary.
  • Identify new applications, innovations, quality and/or safety improvements and present recommendations to management.
  • Ensure all operational activities are performed in compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
