About The Position

As our Production Geologist, you will use established procedures to collect and interpret geological observations and samples for the purpose of guiding the mining effort to keep our production going and our profitability up. Every day you will work at a mine on a remote island about 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. You’ll start every day organizing, scheduling, and prioritizing work activities to ensure timely completion of projects, programs, and objectives. The majority of your average workday occurs underground, collecting observations and samples, lining out headings, and involves clear and consistent communication with the operations and engineering groups. To thrive in this role, you will provide geologic perspectives in level plan design meetings to optimize grade, extraction rate and safety. We’re on a remote island, you must know how to work independently, identify, and resolve problems in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Organizing, scheduling, and prioritizing work activities to ensure timely completion of projects, programs, and objectives.
  • Collecting observations and samples underground.
  • Lining out headings.
  • Communicating clearly and consistently with operations and engineering groups.
  • Providing geologic perspectives in level plan design meetings to optimize grade, extraction rate and safety.
  • Working independently to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Providing stope scale (or smaller) structural understanding to predict geologic hazards in front of current face.
  • Performing fieldwork including mapping and sampling ore faces for assaying.
  • Participating in map meetings by providing relevant geologic information.
  • Participating in level plan engineering meetings by providing relevant geologic information.
  • Inspecting all equipment and work areas before work starts.
  • Promoting and personally observing safety procedures.
