About The Position

The Production Floater is responsible for operating a variety of machines to assist in meeting production demands. This role includes operating machines such as Saws (diamond blade and wire), Mausoleum Assembly, Finishing lines, sanding, Epoxy Applicator and Patcher, Anchoring, Polish Machines, Core Machines, and Milling Machines.

Requirements

  • General computer skills.
  • General knowledge of software used to program CNC, milling, and/or turning machines (e.g., 3D modeling, CAD, CAM software).
  • Good hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to calculate material needs and transfer them to efficient use of raw materials.
  • Understanding of general and job-specific stone colors, characteristics, quality, and appearance criteria.
  • Good color perception; must not be color blind or deficient.
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties and switch between tasks to avoid production interruptions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with an emphasis on time management, improving efficiencies, and exercising independent judgment for work priority and urgency.
  • Mechanically inclined.
  • General math skills.
  • Ability to read work orders or production tickets, including dimensional drawings.
  • Ability to read a tape measure (imperial and metric).
  • Willingness to cross-train as needed.
  • Adherence to all safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect stone for quality and appearance, including dimensions, thickness, flatness, and squareness.
  • Read production tickets to determine work to be completed.
  • Review work before, during, and after various production steps to ensure it meets specifications, potentially using patterns and measuring tools.
  • Apply general knowledge of stone tolerances for repairs, milling, angle and shape cuts, and other detailed work per customer specifications.
  • Use cranes to load and unload work from machines.
  • Load pre-programmed profiles, patterns, or files from the network.
  • Level, brace, secure, wedge, and clamp stone in machines according to safety requirements for each machine.
  • Scan barcodes on production tickets to record work performed in the JDE system.
  • Index saw blades to the correct size and dimension based on the stone being cut.
  • Apply patterns and lay out stone for efficient use of raw material.
  • Operate, maintain, and program wire saws.
  • Set all project components (floors, walls, roofs, jambs, dividers, doors, granite fronts, bronze doors and windows, steps, benches, anchors, etc.) using correct finishing techniques.
  • Apply working knowledge of epoxy and bonding techniques to adhere stones and materials, including granite-to-granite, brass-to-granite, inlaid granite, Dutchmen patches, skate board deterrents, and stainless steel/acrylic inlaid letters.
  • Install and program specialty and new patterns into automated machines.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain Omag stone mills.
