Production Engineer II

Crusoe•Sunnyvale, CA
•$140,000 - $165,000

About The Position

Crusoe is hiring Production Engineer II team members to support the reliability of its rapidly scaling AI cloud infrastructure. This is an entry point into production engineering, with opportunities to build foundational skills and grow toward senior and staff-level infrastructure roles. Team placement will be determined after interviews based on each candidate’s background, interests, and strengths. Work may span cross-domain operations or focus on compute, storage, networking, or other infrastructure specialties. The role centers on keeping production infrastructure reliable under real AI workloads. Engineers triage incidents, investigate root causes using logs and telemetry, write Python or Go automation, improve monitoring and observability, validate changes before production, and participate in on-call rotations and blameless post-mortems. Depending on the team, the work may include GPU fleet reliability, distributed storage, networking fabric and SDN, Managed AI, Inference, or Managed Cloud. This is a reliability engineering role—not product-feature software development or help-desk ticket handling—and requires hands-on coding and growing ownership.

Requirements

  • A CS or EE degree, bootcamp, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Genuine interest in infrastructure and systems reliability rather than application development.
  • Three to five years of working proficiency in Python or Go, including writing and debugging production-quality code.
  • Familiarity with Linux fundamentals, including processes, networking, filesystems, and hardware/software interactions.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment with an on-call rotation.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to write incident summaries and work across compute, storage, and networking teams.
  • Curiosity about how distributed systems fail and a habit of investigating beyond the first explanation.
  • Openness to broad cross-domain work or early specialization, depending on team needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to Kubernetes or container orchestration.
  • Exposure to GPUs, HPC environments, kernel internals, or systems and validation engineering coursework or projects.
  • Prior on-call, NOC, IT operations, or lab/systems administration experience.
  • Personal projects, open-source contributions, or coursework involving distributed systems, low-level systems, or hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Triage and resolve production incidents by parsing logs, correlating signals across services, and determining root causes using logs, telemetry, and profiling.
  • Write automation and tooling in Python or Go, including remediation scripts and health checks, to reduce manual work and detect problems proactively.
  • Build and improve monitoring, alerting, observability, and telemetry.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and respond to alerts.
  • Contribute to blameless post-mortems and write incident summaries.
  • Own the health and reliability of production infrastructure supporting Crusoe’s AI cloud.
  • Build breadth across the infrastructure stack or develop specialization in compute, storage, networking, or another team domain.
  • On hardware-focused teams, help maintain the reliability of GPU fleets, including NVIDIA and AMD hardware, under production AI workloads.
  • Run validation testing on configuration changes, firmware updates, and infrastructure modifications before they reach production.
  • Work with senior and staff engineers on production engineering problems and grow toward greater autonomy and ownership.
