About The Position

Goldman Sachs' Engineers are crucial in making things possible by connecting people and capital with ideas, solving challenging engineering problems for clients. They build scalable software and systems, architect low-latency infrastructure, guard against cyber threats, and leverage machine learning and financial engineering. The Engineering division is central to the business, requiring innovative thinking and practical solutions. The Fixed Income, Currency, and Commodities (FICC) Engineering team plays a vital role in providing liquidity and execution services for institutional clients globally, contributing significantly to the firm's revenue. This team utilizes both open-source and proprietary technologies to develop advanced platforms for pricing, execution, and transaction control. The FICC Systematic Market Making (SMM) business focuses on electronic market making and algorithmic trade execution. The SMM Production Engineering team collaborates with SMM Trading to develop and support pricing and execution services. Their primary focus is on site reliability engineering, emphasizing automation, real-time monitoring, performance metrics, and managing the release and deployment lifecycle. The team supports the daily operations of the trading desk and electronic trading systems, requiring close interaction with Trading & Sales business users. Success in this role requires strong technical and analytical skills to resolve complex production issues in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. A proactive approach to automating manual tasks, an understanding of large-scale distributed computing systems, and proficiency in various programming languages and frameworks are essential. As part of a global support team, individuals will provide operational and technical assistance for SMM applications and infrastructure to both external clients and internal business users. This includes overseeing all aspects of the production system to identify and resolve issues, and assessing the risks associated with system changes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years' of relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency in one of the following: Python, C, C++, Java, or shell scripting.
  • Aptitude for algorithms, data structures, and software design.
  • Experience with Linux operating system internals and/or networking concepts.
  • Strong analytical skills, with an ability to quickly identify scope and impact of issues during high-pressure situations.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with distributed systems design, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with debugging and optimizing code, as well as automation.
  • Knowledge of financial markets.
  • FIX protocol knowledge.
