About The Position

The Production Designer creates and maintains production artwork and templates for PlanetArt’s automated personalization workflow. Working with Merchandising, Creative, Quality Control, and Operations, the role ensures new product artwork is built accurately and on schedule, and that each product is set up in the production process before appearing on customer-facing websites and apps. This is an individual-contributor position with substantial collaboration. The designer owns production work, supports teammates and Production Design leadership in keeping projects on track, and helps ensure customer-facing products are polished, print-ready, and optimized for personalization.

The work includes creating and maintaining product files and templates, testing them against company production standards, reviewing and approving designs, resolving artwork issues, supporting colleagues, and helping improve production processes and tools.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or a related field, or equivalent work experience in print production design.
• Hands-on experience with graphic design software, including Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop; both are preferred.
• Experience with Acrobat and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Clear, confident verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and managerial personnel.
• Ability to give constructive feedback and support peers’ growth.
• Ability to multitask and reprioritize as urgencies arise in a fast-paced environment.
• Self-starter who can prioritize work based on business needs, work with minimal supervision, stay organized, and act with urgency while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

• Basic knowledge of XML.
• Familiarity with scripts and automated processes in Illustrator or Photoshop.
• Project management coursework or experience.
• New product introduction experience.
• Prior experience in quality assurance, peer training, or supporting a production design team.

Responsibilities

• Build new template designs and production artwork in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for products across all brands.
• Create and enter files for each new product into the admin system, and maintain existing files so current information is on record.
• Test templates to verify they print and produce according to company standards.
• Coordinate with colleagues across departments to ensure assets are properly received and delivered.
• Review content across multiple brands and provide constructive feedback and clear edit requests.
• Ensure designs are optimized for customer personalization and final print production.
• Conduct the final review and approval of designs before they are made available to customers.
• Respond promptly to production artwork issues using problem-solving skills.
• Assist teammates and offer practical guidance during everyday production.
• Provide one-on-one assistance and help arrange additional training for junior team members when needed.
• Support the Production Design leadership team with project management and help keep tasks on track.
• Build and maintain working relationships with Product Development, Merchandising, Creative, and Operations, providing service to internal employees.
• Assist Production Design managers and the director in optimizing processes for new and existing products.
• Work with Quality Assurance and Product Development to improve team tools and processes.
• Help maintain a safe and clean work environment and perform other artwork-related duties assigned by management.
