About The Position

The Production Assistant will complete driving routes for pickup and/or drop off of donations at the warehouse, assigned donation boxes, and donor homes. This role is a personal representative of The Salvation Army, ensuring courteous customer interactions, appropriate donation acceptance/refusal, and adherence to company procedures. The position also supports the work therapy program by providing an example of professional conduct and work habits.

Requirements

  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Valid driver’s license for assigned vehicles and acceptable DMV record.
  • Must pass driving test.
  • Must be able to read maps and plan and prioritize daily route coverage.
  • Must be able to use iPad with GPS, texting, and truck inspection report.
  • Must have good communication and customer service skills.
  • Medical card required depending on city and/or state requirement.
  • Passing a DOT Physical is a requirement of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Complete driving routes for pickup and/or drop off of donations at the warehouse, assigned donation boxes, and donor homes.
  • Ensure the security and safe operation of the vehicle and other assigned equipment.
  • Promptly report all accidents involving the truck, personal injury, or property damage to the immediate supervisor and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Perform daily walk-around inspections of the vehicle, checking essential components to maintain equipment in good operating condition.
  • Report any vehicle problems immediately to the supervisor.
  • Ensure the truck cab and box are clean and free of personal items daily.
  • Plan daily routing based on assigned pick-ups and complete all scheduled calls, including donation boxes.
  • Act as a personal representative of The Salvation Army, treating customers courteously, accepting or refusing donations appropriately, and strictly following the “Manual for Production Assistants”.
  • Report any problems in pickups immediately to the dispatcher.
  • Maintain a professional appearance in compliance with the company dress code.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Adhere to communication procedures.
  • Responsible for loading and unloading of the assigned truck and others as requested.
  • Take proper care to secure and safely handle goods and materials during loading and unloading, using blankets, ropes, etc., to avoid damage and optimize space.
  • Provide assistance to Thrift Store personnel when delivering items to ensure proper placement and location within the store.
  • Instruct and supervise the Truck Helper, setting a positive example of professional conduct and work habits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or Administrator.
