About The Position

The Production Assistant will complete driving routes for pickup and/or drop off of donations at the warehouse, assigned donation boxes, and donor homes. This role is a personal representative of The Salvation Army, ensuring courteous customer interactions, appropriate donation acceptance/refusal, and adherence to the “Manual for Production Assistants”. The position also involves supporting the work therapy program by providing beneficiaries with an example of professional conduct and work habits.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance.
  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Ability to adhere to communication procedures.
  • Ability to load and unload truck assigned and others as requested.
  • Ability to take proper care to secure and safely handle goods and materials during loading and unloading.
  • Ability to instruct and supervise Truck Helper.

Responsibilities

  • Complete driving routes for pickup and/or drop off of donations at the warehouse, assigned donation boxes, and donor homes.
  • Ensure the security and safe operation of the vehicle and other assigned equipment.
  • Promptly report all accidents involving the truck, personal injury, or property damage to the immediate supervisor and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Perform daily walk-around inspections of the vehicle, checking essential components to maintain equipment in good operating condition.
  • Report any vehicle problems immediately to the supervisor.
  • Ensure the truck cab and box are clean and personal items are removed daily.
  • Plan daily routing based on assigned pick-ups and complete all scheduled calls, including donation boxes.
  • Treat all customers courteously.
  • Accept or refuse donations appropriately.
  • Strictly follow the “Manual for Production Assistants”.
  • Report any problems in pickups immediately to the dispatcher.
  • Maintain a professional appearance in compliance with company dress code.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Adhere to communication procedures.
  • Load and unload the assigned truck and others as requested.
  • Take proper care to secure and safely handle goods and materials during loading and unloading using blankets, ropes, etc., to avoid movement, breakage, scratching, or damage, and to make optimum use of available space.
  • Provide assistance to Thrift Store personnel when delivering items to ensure proper placement and location within the store.
  • Instruct and supervise the Truck Helper, keeping in mind their participation in a rehabilitation program and teaching good habits by example and instruction.
