About The Position

The Boeing Company is seeking a senior electronics-focused Product Review Engineer to support its AvionX team at the Smithfield Production & Test facility in Smithfield, Pennsylvania, within Enterprise Test & Technology. The role leads production readiness, testability, and manufacturability for avionics and electronics, supporting AvionX across Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS), Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA), and Boeing Global Services (BGS). The engineer influences design and supply-chain decisions and helps accelerate delivery of next-generation avionics. The position combines circuit- and systems-level expertise with hands-on manufacturing and test experience to make complex avionics designs producible, testable, reliable, and safe. The engineer works with Design Engineering teams early in the design process, translates engineering intent into repeatable factory processes, and serves as the technical interface among Design, Manufacturing, Test, and Quality throughout program lifecycles. The role also leads research, development, evaluation, and integration of robotics, automation, equipment, tooling, and other technologies for programs and products. The role is highly visible across AvionX and the broader Boeing enterprise, with opportunities to influence architecture, supplier strategies, and manufacturing automation. It requires supplier and other Boeing-site travel as needed; the posting specifies 25% travel. This position is Shift 1. The listed summary pay range for Chief Engineer level (Level 5) is $154,700–$209,300. Relocation is offered based on candidate eligibility. Applicants must meet U.S. export-control requirements as a U.S. Person. The role does not require a security clearance and is not safety sensitive. Boeing will not sponsor employment visas for applicants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 10 or more years of experience with electronics product design.
  • 10 or more years of experience using electrical schematics to design and troubleshoot test architectures involving FPGAs, custom PCBs, benchtop equipment, and the microelectronics unit under test.
  • 10 or more years of experience working directly with manufacturing engineering, design engineering, and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.
  • Ability to travel 25% as stated in the posting; travel may be required to suppliers and other Boeing sites.
  • Must meet U.S. export-control compliance requirements as a U.S. Person.
  • Must complete a technical assessment as part of the selection process; failure to complete it removes the applicant from consideration.
  • Must satisfy the Company's Conflict of Interest assessment process.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to travel quarterly or more often if needed.
  • Extensive experience, preferably in avionics, as a technical lead or chief engineer overseeing tooling, calibration, and manufacturing engineering activities.
  • Demonstrated record of leading complex cross-functional engineering projects, resolving technical risks, and delivering solutions on schedule.
  • Strong mentorship and people-leadership skills, including developing technical talent, providing engineering guidance, and aligning teams to program requirements.
  • Ability to maintain and manage significant authority to autonomously represent Manufacturing & Quality and make technical decisions for integrated product teams across multiple programs.
  • Experience driving supplier readiness and partnering with Procurement and Supplier Engineering to ensure supplier process capability, supplier test standards, and mitigation plans are in place before production release.

Responsibilities

  • Review work products and provide Manufacturing and Quality input on design and test artifacts, including schematics, PCB/CCA drawings, parts lists, test plans and procedures, process templates, and coordination or decision memos; ensure documentation aligns with producibility, testability, and program requirements.
  • Drive New Product Introduction (NPI) readiness and Design for Manufacturing and Test (DFM/DFT), resolve product and process issues through root-cause analysis and corrective actions, and embed Safety, Quality, and Lean improvements across programs.
  • Apply knowledge of Boeing design principles, manufacturing capabilities, and constraints to assess and resolve product or process issues throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring across the AvionX organization.
  • Develop mitigation plans for risks to Safety, Quality, manufacturing processes, test, and program schedule, and drive cross-functional closure over the full product lifecycle.
  • Develop, deliver, and maintain technical training, Site Level Instructions (SLIs), and equipment demonstrations.
  • Mentor engineers, interns, co-ops, and rotational participants in PCB/CCA manufacturability, test techniques, and troubleshooting practices.
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional scrums, technical meetings, governance and decision boards, and Lean innovation activities; facilitate timely decisions, continuous improvement, and alignment among Design, Manufacturing, Test, Quality, and Supply Chain.
  • Create and maintain AvionX technical artifacts, including site drawings, assembly and process flows, test-fixture specifications, and process templates that enable consistent, repeatable builds across sites and suppliers.
  • Establish production-readiness gates and go/no-go criteria, define key production KPIs, and deliver measurable improvements in ramp rate, yield, and first-pass test success.
  • Influence supplier design-for-manufacturing strategies and ensure testability and maintainability are incorporated into products from the outset.
  • Drive cost-reduction and throughput-improvement initiatives through readiness reviews, continuous-improvement events, and automation or tooling implementation where it measurably benefits quality, safety, or schedule.
  • Travel to suppliers and other Boeing sites as required to support ramp and sustainment, supplier audits, and cross-site knowledge transfer.
  • Lead research, development, evaluation, and integration of robotics, automation, equipment, tooling, and other technologies for program and product applicability.

Benefits

  • Competitive base pay and variable compensation opportunities.
  • Eligible employees may enroll in health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life insurance, and disability insurance programs.
  • Programs providing paid and unpaid time away from work.
  • Relocation based on candidate eligibility. Specific benefits and options may vary based on eligibility factors, including geographic location, hire date, and collective bargaining agreement applicability.
