Product Quality Engineer

Meta•Austin, TX
•$173,000 - $245,000

About The Position

Meta's Hardware Infrastructure team is building the physical foundation that powers AI at global scale. The Product Quality Engineer owns end-to-end quality strategy for next-generation infrastructure hardware, including compute platforms, storage systems, and data center hardware, from early prototypes through high-volume mass production. The role is at the intersection of engineering innovation and operations, with ownership of manufacturing readiness strategy for advanced compute and GPU platforms. The engineer partners with design engineering, contract manufacturers, and supply chain teams to define quality standards, improve yield, and ensure infrastructure hardware meets reliability and performance requirements at hyperscale volumes. The position includes international travel to supplier sites of up to 25%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in product quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, or hardware reliability engineering within a hardware product development environment.
  • Experience leading quality programs for complex hardware systems from NPI through high-volume mass production, including ownership of yield improvement and defect reduction initiatives.
  • Experience supporting hardware architecture, with hands-on experience in testing and validation of compute and GPU systems.
  • Experience partnering with contract manufacturers and component suppliers to define quality requirements, conduct audits, and drive corrective actions.
  • Experience partnering with stakeholder teams to drive alignment on technical decisions through proposals, design reviews, or presentations.
  • Background in process development, bring-up, and qualification, encompassing Final Assembly, Test, and Packout processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience scripting test cases in Python for compute, storage, or AI/ML servers and racks.
  • Experience with GPU architectures, high-performance computing systems, or AI/ML infrastructure hardware.
  • Experience with test automation frameworks and manufacturing execution systems (MES).
  • Background in reliability engineering methodologies, including accelerated life testing and failure mode analysis.
  • Experience working within quality management systems such as ISO 9001 or in a hardware manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing relationships and working effectively with international contract manufacturers.
  • Experience with data center hardware manufacturing at hyperscale.
  • Experience proactively working on issues that may not be clearly defined and require strategy and direction.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own manufacturing quality strategy for infrastructure hardware programs, including compute, GPU, storage, and networking platforms, across NPI and mass production phases.
  • Establish and track manufacturing quality metrics, including yield, first-pass rate, defect density, and field return rates, and drive accountability and continuous improvement across internal teams and contract manufacturing partners.
  • Evaluate and enhance test coverage, methodologies, and infrastructure to improve hardware reliability and performance at scale against defined targets.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action programs for systemic hardware failures, manage failure analysis workflows, and drive closure of critical issues against yield and reliability targets.
  • Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to drive power optimizations and performance tuning for compute and GPU systems during manufacturing validation.
  • Manage technical transition from prototype builds to high-volume manufacturing and facilitate technical discussions to resolve open design and test issues.
  • Travel internationally to supplier sites (up to 25%) to manage hardware validation, ensure compliance with test requirements, and foster technical partnerships.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment on quality requirements and risk mitigation plans across design engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing operations teams.
