Product Owner II

TrueComp
•$105,000 - $125,000

About The Position

TrueComp is a growth-stage govtech SaaS company expanding its product organization across its workforce analytics suite, including TrueComp Intelligence and Labor Costing. The Product Owner II is a mid-level, hands-on role working across the product suite, partnering with onshore and India-based engineering teams, and reporting directly to the Chief Product Officer. This is an AI-forward product role. Using Claude and Claude Design throughout the product lifecycle, the Product Owner takes product vision from concept to delivery by building AI-assisted prototypes and UI/UX designs, writing PRDs, creating epics and user stories, and managing backlogs and agile teams through release. The role calls for strong product judgment, fluency with AI-assisted product work, and disciplined agile execution. The Product Owner engages government customers and internal stakeholders to understand needs and validate solutions; owns backlog refinement and day-to-day product decisions; facilitates agile ceremonies; coordinates testing and releases; tracks initiatives and roadmaps; defines and reviews success metrics; and contributes to product strategy. The role also includes developing repeatable AI workflows, reviewing AI-generated work for accuracy, accessibility, and security, protecting customer and agency data, and collaborating across time zones with engineering teams in India. First-year expectations include building relationships and learning the product suite and workflows in the first 30 days; taking backlog ownership, leading agile ceremonies, and delivering a PRD with a Claude Design prototype through production within 60 days; running the full prototype-to-release cycle with minimal supervision and contributing to roadmap planning within 90 days; and owning delivery outcomes and supporting AI-enabled product practices during the first year.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or in a comparable role in an agile software development environment, with a record of independently owning a backlog and delivering outcomes.
  • Hands-on use of AI tools such as Claude across the product lifecycle, including prototyping, design, PRD authoring, and user story creation; candidates should be prepared to discuss specific examples and results during interviews.
  • Experience taking an idea from concept through PRD to a refined, sprint-ready backlog.
  • Proficiency with Jira for story writing and backlog management, and experience with comparable roadmap and project management tools.
  • Ability to decompose ambiguous business problems into clearly scoped, deliverable increments of work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex requirements to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering teams across the full software development lifecycle.
  • Flexibility to work with offshore teams in India, including meetings outside standard U.S. business hours.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with offshore development teams, ideally teams collocated in a single location such as India.
  • Government technology experience, including familiarity with public sector customers.
  • Experience in B2B SaaS, particularly at a high-growth organization.
  • Domain experience in human resources technology, compensation, workforce planning, budgeting, or data and analytics products.
  • Working knowledge of UX principles and design systems.
  • Experience with product analytics tools such as Pendo.
  • Experience with Aha! and Asana.

Responsibilities

  • Translate product vision and customer needs into interactive prototypes and UI/UX concepts using Claude Design, validating direction with customers and stakeholders before engineering work begins.
  • Author clear and complete PRDs, using Claude to assist with drafting, analysis, and edge-case discovery while ensuring the final work is accurate and high quality.
  • Engage government customers and internal stakeholders, including Customer Success, Sales, and Services, to gather requirements, test solutions, and keep customer needs central to product decisions.
  • Break PRDs into epics and user stories with clear, testable acceptance criteria, and maintain prioritized, refined Jira backlogs across supported products.
  • Serve as the day-to-day product decision-maker for assigned teams by answering questions, clarifying scope, and accepting or rejecting work against acceptance criteria and the Definition of Done.
  • Facilitate sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives; manage daily stand-ups and asynchronous communication in partnership with engineering leadership.
  • Coordinate user acceptance testing, release readiness, and release communications with Engineering, QA, Support, and Customer Success.
  • Track initiative status and cross-functional work in Asana, and keep roadmap items, ideas, and priorities current in Aha!.
  • Communicate sprint priorities, release goals, and roadmap commitments to organizational stakeholders.
  • Define success metrics for delivered features, review product usage data after release, and use results to refine priorities.
  • Contribute to product vision, strategy, and roadmap in coordination with the Chief Product Officer and Product Management.
  • Build and share repeatable AI workflows, including prompts, templates, and reusable patterns, to improve product team speed and consistency.
  • Review AI-generated work for accuracy, accessibility, and security, and protect customer and agency data when using AI tools.
  • Work effectively with engineering teams in India through regular overlap hours, clear written requirements, and proactive cross-time-zone communication.
  • Meet first-year onboarding, backlog ownership, agile leadership, delivery, velocity and predictability, roadmap contribution, and product-area ownership expectations described in the posting.
