About The Position

PlayOn’s Product Marketing Specialist sits at the intersection of product marketing, customer intelligence, market development, and sales enablement. This is an early-career role for a marketer with at least two years of relevant professional experience who wants to build deeper expertise in how products are positioned, introduced, adopted, and proven within a growing market. Relevant experience may include full-time employment, contract work, or multiple substantive internships that collectively demonstrate at least two years of hands-on responsibility in product marketing, marketing, customer research, customer success, sales enablement, market analysis, or a related discipline. You will support PlayOn’s Emerging Markets business, focused on the club, youth, and amateur sports market serving athletes age 18 and under. This market includes club and travel programs, tournament and showcase operators, sports complexes and facilities, community and private recreation leagues. Unlike the school athletics market, purchasing decisions in Emerging Markets are often influenced by multiple operational and financial stakeholders. These may include club directors, tournament operators, facility general managers, league commissioners, treasurers, business managers, governing bodies, and parents as the ultimate end users of the event experience. Your work will help PlayOn better understand these audiences, articulate their operational challenges, and translate customer evidence into clear positioning, messaging, enablement, and market-facing content. The role requires an ability to understand the day-to-day realities of running tournaments, clubs, facilities, and leagues—including cash handling, gate operations, staffing, revenue reconciliation, reporting, and parent experience—and connect those realities to the value of digital ticketing, payments, and related PlayOn solutions. The ideal candidate brings curiosity, intellectual honesty, attention to accuracy, and a genuine interest in how emerging sports organizations operate and make purchasing decisions. You should be comfortable working across customer interviews, market research, sales feedback, performance data, and AI-assisted workflows to turn fragmented information into clear, usable insights.

Requirements

  • At least two years of relevant experience in product marketing, marketing, customer research, customer success, sales enablement, market analysis, or a related field.
  • Candidates may satisfy the experience requirement through full-time employment, contract work, or multiple substantive internships that collectively represent at least one year of relevant, hands-on experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications, research, analytics, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, accurately, and for a specific audience.
  • Comfort working with data, including customer feedback, spreadsheets, dashboards, survey results, and basic performance or trend analysis.
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills, including the ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and proactively identify risks or dependencies.
  • The ability to synthesize information from multiple sources and turn it into clear insights, recommendations, messaging, or customer-facing content.
  • A collaborative working style and the ability to work effectively across marketing, sales, product, customer success, operations, and leadership teams.
  • Interest in youth sports, amateur athletics, sports technology, event operations, digital payments, or emerging sports markets.
  • Working knowledge of generative AI tools, including ChatGPT and Claude, with the ability to use them effectively for research, synthesis, analysis, drafting, and knowledge management.
  • The ability to write effective prompts, evaluate AI-generated output, verify facts and assumptions, protect confidential information, and apply human judgment before using AI-assisted work in final deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Build a reliable understanding of the club, youth, and amateur sports market, including its segments, buyer roles, operational challenges, purchasing triggers, and decision-making processes.
  • Strengthen product positioning and messaging by maintaining accurate, market-informed persona, use-case, competitive, and value-proposition resources.
  • Translate operational challenges—including cash handling, gate leakage, fragmented payments, staffing constraints, and disconnected reporting—into clear and credible customer value narratives.
  • Build a consistent pipeline of customer proof, including testimonials, quotes, use cases, customer stories, and measurable business outcomes.
  • Improve sales and go-to-market execution by providing teams with relevant market intelligence, buyer insights, objection handling, and customer-facing enablement materials.
  • Create visibility into market response, product adoption, customer feedback, and emerging patterns across customer segments.
  • Maintain and update market overviews, positioning summaries, persona briefs, messaging frameworks, use-case documentation, and competitive reference materials.
  • Conduct structured interviews with club directors, tournament operators, facility leaders, league commissioners, financial stakeholders, and other market participants.
  • Capture and organize customer quotes, testimonials, operational insights, objections, proof points, and customer stories in formats that can be used by marketing and sales.
  • Support the development of segment-specific sales enablement, onboarding content, workflow guides, FAQs, case studies, presentations, and campaign materials.
  • Identify recurring customer challenges related to ticketing, payments, gate operations, staffing, reporting, reconciliation, sponsorship, and parent experience.
  • Help translate qualitative and quantitative findings into audience-specific messaging and recommendations.
  • Maintain the market, product, and customer knowledge documents used by marketing, sales, product, customer success, and leadership.
  • Partner with sales, product, customer success, operations, and marketing stakeholders to collect information and support go-to-market priorities.
  • Use approved AI tools to accelerate research, synthesize information, analyze customer feedback, develop initial drafts, and maintain knowledge resources while applying appropriate human judgment, fact-checking, and review.
