Product Manager - Payment Processing

Eigen Development•Tampa, FL

About The Position

Shift4 is expanding globally and hiring a key Payment Processing Product Manager, Lead – North America. This role owns the product strategy and delivery for the core transaction processing domain in North America, spanning Clearing, Settlement, and Exceptions/Dispute Management. This role is central to the company's move away from legacy, homegrown processing infrastructure toward a modern, modular processing platform. It requires close, ongoing engagement with the third-party processors and networks the business relies on today as that transition unfolds. Reporting into the Global Payment Delivery leadership, this individual translates architectural direction into a concrete, sequenced product roadmap, working across engineering, operations, finance, and external processing partners to ensure the platform is reliable, compliant, and positioned for eventual platform independence.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in a product management role within payments processing, acquiring or a related financial technology domain.
  • Working knowledge of transaction lifecycle mechanics, specifically clearing, settlement, and dispute/exception processes across card networks.
  • Experience managing relationships with external processing or network partners, including roadmap negotiation and issue escalation.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate architectural or technical direction into an executable, sequenced product roadmap.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience working alongside Finance, Risk, Operations, and Engineering.
  • Comfort working with structured data and system interfaces; ability to read and reason about data models and integration points.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting roadmap and status updates to senior stakeholders.
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in an environment of active architectural change and platform migration.

Responsibilities

  • Own the product roadmap for Clearing, Settlement, and Exceptions/Dispute Management within the North America processing stack, ensuring alignment with the broader global processing architecture and platform-independence strategy.
  • Serve as the primary product point of contact with existing third-party processing and network partners, managing day-to-day requirements, escalations, and roadmap dependencies while planning for eventual consolidation onto the target processing platform.
  • Translate high-level architectural direction (e.g., separating switching/auth, clearing, and settlement into modular, replaceable components) into detailed product requirements, phased migration plans, and measurable delivery milestones.
  • Partner with Engineering to scope build-vs-buy decisions for processing capabilities not fully covered by external platform partners (e.g., residuals, billing nuances, reconciliation, reporting), and own the resulting internal product backlog.
  • Work closely with Finance, Risk, Operations, and Compliance to ensure clearing, settlement, and exception-handling flows meet regulatory, funding, and reconciliation requirements across card networks and payment types.
  • Define and track success metrics for processing reliability, settlement accuracy, exception resolution time, and partner performance, and report progress to senior product and executive stakeholders.
  • Document and maintain the logical data model and interface contracts between the processing domain and adjacent systems (onboarding/merchant data, gateway, billing), ensuring consistency in naming conventions and identifiers as legacy systems are decomposed.
  • Support internal and external certification efforts (e.g., network/scheme certifications) tied to new clearing and settlement capabilities.
  • Act as a bridge between regional (North America) needs and the global Payment Architecture function, surfacing local requirements for peer review and ensuring North America is represented in global processing standards.
