About The Position

The Product Management Director, Instruments is responsible for driving the strategy and execution of Cepheid’s instrument platform portfolio, including installed base growth, platform lifecycle management, and hardware performance optimization. This role partners closely across assay, software, and commercial teams to enable overall system growth and deliver integrated customer solutions. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Product Management, Systems & Software and is part of the Global Product Management Organization located in Sunnyvale, CA and will be an On-site role. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of related work experience OR Master’s degree in field with 8+ years of related work experience
  • 4+ years experience in Global Product Management or Global Product Marketing
  • Demonstrated experience leading global product launches and working in cross-functional groups globally
  • Role requires frequent travel of up to 30% and may include some international travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the molecular diagnostic industry, including instrument platforms, capital equipment business models, and competitive system landscapes, is highly desired.
  • Communicates effectively and is a strong team player/collaborator with various internal constituents, customers, and other stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Set future vision for the instrument portfolio strategy including platform roadmap, installed base expansion, and lifecycle management (launch, upgrades, end-of-life), and lead business reviews for revenue, margin, placements/utilization, and product performance.
  • Lead cross-functional execution of instrument strategy by partnering with R&D, operations, service, assay/product teams, and commercial functions to deliver high-performing hardware solutions aligned with overall system objectives.
  • Drive instrument launch excellence and go-to-market strategy, including defining value proposition, positioning, capital equipment pricing, and placement strategy across global markets.
  • Identify growth opportunities for the instrument portfolio by analyzing market dynamics, competitive platforms, and customer workflow needs to inform platform development and expansion priorities.
  • Own the Instrument Franchise strategy, driving initiatives to expand installed base, improve platform utilization and reliability, and contribute to system-level differentiation through evidence-based competitive positioning.
