About The Position

GM is seeking a Product Interface Engineer to join their product teams in redefining mobility through a human-centered design process. This role focuses on creating vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt, turning today's impossible into tomorrow's standard. The engineer will work on breakthrough hardware, battery systems, intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features, aiming to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected. This is a hybrid role requiring the candidate to report to Warren three times per week, at minimum. The Body PI engineer serves as the primary liaison between ME Body and Product Engineering, ensuring product design is driven by manufacturing needs by following Manufacturing Requirements (MRs) and Best Practices (BPs). The role emphasizes achieving global inter-buildability, maintaining top-tier static quality, and aligning with GM's "Lean" manufacturing principles and systems. PI engineers oversee programs throughout the entire GVDP lifecycle, actively seeking solutions to complex problems and aiming for cost reductions. The organization works throughout the entire GVDP lifecycle, cross-functionally solving problems, and collaborating with disciplines like Dies, ME Architects, Virtual Engineering, Dimensional, Paint, and Body Execution. This role offers valuable experience in both Manufacturing and Product Engineering and the opportunity to work on global programs with counterparts in Shanghai, China, and Seoul, South Korea.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering field or equivalent experience
  • At least 4 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • High level of oral and written communication skills
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Plant personnel, and suppliers
  • High level of analytical abilities to solve complex problems
  • Facilitator /leadership skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft software
  • Ability to travel locally as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Body-In-White (BIW) tool design and build
  • Proficiency in TeamCenter/VisMockup
  • Familiar with math based processes
  • Familiar with General Motors North America (GMNA) standards
  • Knowledge of Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP) and related deliverables

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Engineering to ensure Manufacturing Requirements (MRs) and Best Practices (BPs) are incorporated into product program design releases.
  • Assure product designs support Common Datum Locating Strategy (CDLS)/Hole to Hole/Body Shop (ABC Metrics) dimensional strategies.
  • Assure product designs support global interbuildability strategies.
  • Develop and execute Plan for Every Part (PFEP) to support product program execution.
  • Manage Manufacturing Concept Sheets and Study Requests and maintain logs.
  • Manage Engineering Change Management (ECM) engineering changes that impact Body-In-White (BIW).
  • Develop and maintain Product Engineering Drive Cost Increase Tracking Log.
  • Develop, submit and track material order for tooling integration and buy-off.
  • Develop, submit and track material orders for Manufacturing Validation Events.
  • Support purchased part sourcing process.
  • Assure the integrated resolution of product/process issues in support of the Issue Resolution Team (IRT) in a support role for plant builds.
  • Supports the Vehicle Dimensional Quality Manager (VDQM) and Dimensional Team to drive nominal body and in the development of the Critical Interface plan and execution.
  • Develop Appendix B1 for Statements of Requirements (SORs).
  • Participate in Tech Reviews.
  • Resolve subassembly strategy issues.
