Product Industrial Engineer

Neptune Technology Group•Tallassee, AL

About The Position

The Product Industrial Engineer creates and maintains production-ready manufacturing bills of material (MBOMs), bills of material, manufacturing routings, labor standards, and related ERP data. The role translates engineering structures into accurate production configurations, governs data quality and revisions, and ensures ERP records reflect engineering documentation and actual shop-floor processes. The engineer supports production planning, scheduling, costing, new product introduction, and continuous improvement while partnering across Engineering, Operations, Planning, Finance, and other teams. The work takes place in a combination of office and manufacturing-floor environments, with occasional travel between facilities if applicable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain, Management Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2–5+ years of hands-on manufacturing experience creating or maintaining BOMs/MBOMs, routings, and labor standards.
  • Experience with ERP systems; SAP is strongly preferred, while Oracle, Infor, Epicor, NetSuite, or similar systems are also considered.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, work-center flow, and shop-floor operations.
  • Proficiency in time-study methods such as stopwatch studies, MTM/MOST, or predetermined time systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and Text-to-Columns, for data staging, cleansing, and analysis.
  • Uncompromising attention to detail and data accuracy, including precision with decimals, units of measure, and operation sequencing.
  • Strong communication skills to translate system rules for engineers and operational realities for IT and planning teams.
  • Analytical mindset and strong problem-solving ability.

Nice To Haves

  • SAP PP and SAP MM fluency.
  • Experience with SAP PLM or S/4HANA PEO, including VEMP.
  • Proficiency with standard BOM transactions such as CS01/CS02/CS03 and multi-level explosions such as CS11/CS12/CS13.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous-improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with cost roll-ups and standard costing.
  • APICS/CPIM certification.
  • Experience supporting new product launches or engineering change management.

Responsibilities

  • Translate EBOMs into production-ready MBOMs, audit incoming engineering data, and configure structures in SAP or an equivalent ERP system.
  • Create, review, and maintain BOMs/MBOMs and manufacturing routings, including operation sequences, work centers, and process steps.
  • Set item categories, scrap factors, and phantom assemblies; manage alternative and variant BOM configurations across plants or locations.
  • Ensure BOM and routing data align with engineering drawings, specifications, shop-floor processes, and adjacent ERP objects such as material master records and work centers.
  • Incorporate engineering changes into BOMs and routings using ERP change-management tools, tracking revisions and material effectivity dates.
  • Perform mass maintenance to update or replace obsolete parts and component quantities.
  • Audit BOM and routing data, conduct system health checks, correct discrepancies, and eliminate unconfigured items that could disrupt MRP or production order releases.
  • Develop and maintain standard-work documentation and ensure work instructions reflect current, repeatable shop-floor practices.
  • Conduct time studies to establish standard manufacturing operation times; maintain ERP labor standards as processes change.
  • Analyze variances between standard and actual production times, investigate causes, recommend corrective actions, and validate standards with Operations.
  • Support capacity planning and production scheduling using accurate routing, BOM, and time data.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cycle-time reduction, and labor efficiency; support Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous-improvement initiatives with data and documentation.
  • Participate in new product introduction activities, supporting manufacturability and accurate initial BOM, MBOM, and routing setup.
  • Partner with R&D and Design Engineering to resolve discrepancies between CAD structures and ERP configurations.
  • Collaborate with Production Planners and Shop Floor Managers to troubleshoot BOM and routing errors that block order releases.
  • Support Finance and Cost Accounting during cost roll-ups and standard costing to improve component valuation and labor-standard accuracy.
  • Train production and planning staff on BOM and routing structures and serve as a subject matter expert on ERP manufacturing data structures.
