About The Position

Construction Innovations is seeking a mechanically inclined, creative problem solver to serve as a Product Engineer. This position will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) who will design and detail various products, including assemblies and manufactured parts for electrical construction projects. Project types may be utility-scale PV solar plants, other renewable energy plants, commercial/industrial buildings, or substation, transmission, and distribution projects. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical background, the ability to effectively communicate, and has great attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience on electrical construction projects
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings
  • Knowledge of technological advancements in electrical systems and components
  • Understanding of electrical materials, construction means, and methods
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Design and/or engineering experience in electrical power and/or distribution systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • 10 years’ experience as a Product Engineer or equivalent position in the construction or manufacturing industries (Product Engineer Level II).
  • Experience with or ability to understand commercial implications of solutions proposed, potential areas of risk, and methods to limit liability (Product Engineer Level II).

Nice To Haves

  • Installation experience on medium and high voltage distribution systems or renewable energy projects is highly preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of renewable energy projects gained either through a trade education or an engineering degree is highly preferred but not required
  • Experience with AutoCAD is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret project construction documents, including technical drawings and datasheets, to establish detailing criteria.
  • Identify material and assemblies needed for electrical installation while meeting all code and project scope requirements.
  • Ensure designs for manufacturing and installation are completed by established deadlines.
  • Recommend changes to the electrical design to support manufacturing and installation.
  • Develop detailed installation plans, especially product installation details, coordinating with designers to create installation drawings that align with project scope requirements.
  • Optimize installation by selecting and/or verifying the most cost-effective and efficient products.
  • Ensure design for installation and manufacturing drawings and BOMs align with project scope requirements.
  • Guide field personnel on intended methods of installation on assigned products; collect and implement feedback.
  • Understand and communicate to other team members the capabilities, limitations, and the codes and listings applicable to their assigned products.
  • Improve existing product line offerings and suggest ideas for new products that create value.
  • Implement new products and ensure conformity with design criteria, including fabrication oversight in the plant and installation oversight in the field.
  • Train on and perform duties in accordance with the quality management system (QMS).
  • Travel to project job sites (up to 30% working time away from the office).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Create product testing requirements for pre-delivery and post-delivery quality assurance and commissioning (Product Engineer Level II).
  • Support and train other team members on processes and technical information for multiple product lines (Product Engineer Level II).
  • Develop and maintain departmental work instructions and procedures to implement best practices and to ensure quality and timely deliverables (Product Engineer Level II).
