About The Position

Product Engineers provide technical support for Makino product lines, including horizontal and vertical machining centers, EDM machines, and automation solutions. This role is a key technical resource for departments including marketing, sales, order fulfillment, customer support, and proposal engineering, and is responsible for developing technical and cost data for assigned product lines. Responsibilities include researching technical documentation across Makino’s global engineering teams, supporting the definition of pre-sale option inquiries, and creating formal engineering estimates.

Requirements

• Ability to read and interpret Mechanical Drawings, Electrical Drawings, and Technical Writing.
• Ability to create and maintain 2D and 3D machine and cell layouts.
• Skilled in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Power Point etc.).
• Exposure to SAP or similar ERP systems.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail, especially in managing multiple aspects of the quoting process.
• Highly organized, with the ability to track the status of multiple proposals simultaneously.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and respond to requests submitted via the Options Engineering Cost and Feasibility Site.
• Create cost estimates for machine option content and automation systems requests, including analysis of request for feasibility, definition & clarification of request for scope and content of option, investigation of potential design options for cost and functionality, creation of cost estimates that include a breakdown of the costs, a description of option/system functionality, a list of assumptions, constraints, and limitations, documentation and archiving of the cost estimates, and follow-up support to requesting organizations.
• Review requests for impact on all product lines.
• Updates option cost estimates per design changes of the Makino product lines, as identified within the Makino Inc. engineering organization.
• Request and review cost estimates from other Makino global engineering organizations, such as MT, MJ, and MA, for supplied machine options and systems products.
• Provide technical support of local option content to the Makino Mason organization for assigned Makino product lines, including support for specifications for Makino product line requirements (e.g., coolant/chip conveyor systems), support for the resolution of Makino product and option questions and issues pertaining to the areas of cost estimating and specification definitions, maintenance, development, and administration of the requirements for layout drawings and solid model data for assigned Makino product lines, and support for the creation of machine option documentation for assigned Makino product lines, including machine specifications.
• Identify and support process improvements to enhance efficiency.
• Minimal travel may be required to support product promotion, development, or installation.
