About The Position

This role is responsible for building and evaluating a wide range of products across multiple brands. The Product Engineer acts as the technical eyes and ears for the US product team, thoroughly examining new products, prototypes, and samples to ensure they meet performance standards before reaching customers. This is a hands-on, detail-oriented position at the intersection of engineering, product development, and quality assurance. The individual will be responsible for identifying issues early, documenting them clearly, and collaborating with the team for resolution. The role is part of a growing engineering team within the US PD function, requiring close collaboration with the broader product team and reporting directly to the Senior Product Manager. Fluency in Mandarin Chinese is a mandatory requirement for this position due to direct and ongoing communication needs with Chinese manufacturing partners.

Requirements

  • Fluency in Mandarin Chinese is required.
  • Solid understanding of entertainment lighting systems — mechanical, electrical, and optical.
  • Experience working with or on DMX lighting setups.
  • Working knowledge of DMX, Art-Net, and sACN protocols.
  • Precise fault reporting and documentation skills.
  • Strong communication skills — able to explain technical problems clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Some coding or software development experience.
  • An interest in how hardware and software connect.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with lighting control desks — ChamSys experience is a plus, but training can be provided.
  • Coding or software development experience is valued and would be put to use.
  • Breadth of exposure to programming languages, scripting, or app development is relevant.

Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate prototypes and samples against technical requirements, including optics, electronics, electrical safety, thermal management, mechanical safety, and robustness.
  • Understand and test lighting fixtures from both a technical and user perspective.
  • Diagnose product issues, recommend corrective actions, and document findings clearly.
  • Evaluate and update software on prototypes and provide feedback on current and future product development.
  • Work with QC teams on faults and issues as they arise.
  • Own issues from initial identification through to resolution.
  • Review and confirm the accuracy of technical manuals, data sheets, and product specifications.
  • Communicate directly with Chinese manufacturing partners on technical issues, feedback, and product queries in Mandarin.
  • Support the Senior Product Manager and product team on a day-to-day basis.
  • Critically analyze technical issues and bring clear thinking to the team.
  • Offer feedback and suggestions on products in development.
  • Contribute to app projects as the app development function grows.
