Product Director - Modelling Portfolio

Wood Mackenzie•Boston, MA
•$160,000 - $190,000

About The Position

Wood Mackenzie is hiring a Product Director to own the strategy and commercial development of its modelling products across power, gas and oil markets. The role sets which models to build, rebuild, retire or acquire; owns the investment case and sequencing; and leads the product leads responsible for individual markets. A central focus is productizing analytical assets and their underlying features into documented, versioned products with reproducible outputs and defined release cycles. The Director establishes consistent standards for methodology validation, change control, backtesting and documentation. They determine how products are packaged and distributed through applications, APIs, data platforms and internal analyst workflows, working with commercial teams on pricing and packaging. Development capacity is provided by central engineering and modelling functions: the Director specifies requirements, reviews implementations and maintains quality standards, but does not manage developers or build models directly. This is a portfolio-level product leadership role, not a modelling, engineering/data science management or research leadership position. Its scope is expected to expand across commodities as the function develops. The position is based on a salary range mapped to Boston; the posting does not specify a workplace arrangement.

Requirements

  • A degree in a mathematical, engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Real experience with linear programming, econometric or machine learning modelling, and the ability to discuss, validate and challenge methodologies on their merits.
  • Ten or more years of product experience, including ownership of a multi-product portfolio and its investment tradeoffs.
  • Experience leading product managers, including senior product managers.
  • A track record of productizing analytical or research assets for repeatable, documented and commercially viable use.
  • Experience with machine-consumable delivery, including APIs, streaming, data platforms and workflow integration.
  • Enough market and commercial literacy to prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to operate through clear specifications, credibility and influence when development, data engineering and market expertise are in teams the role does not manage.
