About The Position

The R&D Engineering Technician supports product development by building, assembling, and testing prototypes; refining fabrication and assembly processes; and documenting work to support transfer into manufacturing. This hands-on role includes sheet metal fabrication, 3D printing, fiber optic cable mockups, and operation of lab and shop equipment. The position offers mentorship and opportunities for skill development in a collaborative R&D environment.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent
2–6 years of experience in fabrication, machining, and/or 3D printing.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
Familiarity with power tools and small machine shop equipment.
Strong attention to detail, organization, and commitment to quality.
Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to adapt to changing project needs.

Nice To Haves

Experience operating 3D printers, preferably SLA or FDM.
Welding experience.
Experience with sheet metal fabrication equipment such as lasers and press brakes.
Ability to contribute ideas and concepts during design problem-solving.
Experience with fiber optic or electrical cable assembly is a plus; training will be provided.

Responsibilities

Fabricate, assemble, and modify mechanical prototypes.
Operate fabrication equipment, including CNC machines, 3D printers, and sheet metal equipment.
Build and test prototype assemblies, including fiber optic cable mockups.
Support prototype validation, testing, and process improvements.
Troubleshoot fabrication and assembly issues.
Create work instructions and support documentation.
Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams throughout product development.
Maintain a safe, organized workspace following quality and 5S standards.
