About The Position

The R&D Engineering Technician supports product development by building, assembling, and testing prototypes; refining fabrication and assembly processes; and documenting work to support transfer into manufacturing. This hands-on role includes sheet metal fabrication, 3D printing, fiber optic cable mockups, and operation of lab and shop equipment. The position offers mentorship and opportunities for skill development in a collaborative R&D environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2–6 years of experience in fabrication, machining, and/or 3D printing.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Familiarity with power tools and small machine shop equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and commitment to quality.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating 3D printers, preferably SLA or FDM.
  • Welding experience.
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication equipment such as lasers and press brakes.
  • Ability to contribute ideas and concepts during design problem-solving.
  • Experience with fiber optic or electrical cable assembly is a plus; training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, assemble, and modify mechanical prototypes.
  • Operate fabrication equipment, including CNC machines, 3D printers, and sheet metal equipment.
  • Build and test prototype assemblies, including fiber optic cable mockups.
  • Support prototype validation, testing, and process improvements.
  • Troubleshoot fabrication and assembly issues.
  • Create work instructions and support documentation.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams throughout product development.
  • Maintain a safe, organized workspace following quality and 5S standards.
