Global Servicing (GS) oversees consumer travel and concierge experiences, all card customer service functions for the company’s global consumer, banking, merchant, and commercial customers, as well as the key enablement functions that power our products and services. The First Line of Defense Financial Crimes Risk & Controls Center of Excellence (1LOD FCRC COE) provides a holistic, enterprise wide approach to Financial Crimes Risk Management (FCRM) across American Express. The team is responsible for strengthening first-line financial crimes capabilities globally including anti-money laundering (AML), sanctions, payments controls, anti corruption and customer risk management. Working in close partnership with Technology, Data, Analytics, Risk, Compliance and Operations teams the organization is modernizing financial crimes capabilities through innovative product development, advanced analytics, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Our mission is to build scalable, intelligent solutions that enhance the company's ability to detect, prevent, and manage financial crime risks while delivering exceptional customer experiences.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in business, economics, finance, risk management, data analytics, computer science, technology, or a related field.
  • Candidates with an expected graduation date between December 2027 to June 2028
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize information and translate findings into actionable insights.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and stakeholder groups.
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, development, testing, and documentation of AI-enabled solutions and agents that strengthen Financial Crimes Risk Management capabilities.
  • Partner with Product, Technology, Data, Risk, Compliance, and Operations teams to identify business needs, understand stakeholder pain points, and translate them into product opportunities and functional requirements.
  • Help map relationships across regulatory requirements, processes, risks, controls, data, and technology to identify gaps and opportunities for improved remediation and risk management.
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies, including Generative AI and machine learning, and assess opportunities to improve decision support, analyst workflows, operational effectiveness, and remediation outcomes.
  • Support the development of product requirements, user stories, business cases, success metrics, and recommendations for new or enhanced capabilities.
  • Collaborate with Technology and Data teams to support solution development, testing, validation, and implementation while maintaining appropriate governance, transparency, and human oversight.
  • Analyze findings and develop practical, data-informed recommendations that improve scalability, execution, and effectiveness of Financial Crimes capabilities.
  • Prepare executive-ready presentations, project updates, and supporting documentation, and communicate project outcomes and recommendations to business, technology, risk, and compliance stakeholders.
