About The Position

Counsel is seeking a Product Designer to define the consumer experience for AI-enabled healthcare. The designer will shape the end-to-end patient experience, from a patient’s first question through advice, prescriptions, labs, referrals, and follow-ups across mobile and web. This role will help establish the visual, interaction, and motion standards for a product patients trust with their health, translating complex healthcare needs into simple, intuitive experiences. The position involves rapidly prototyping, testing, and iterating on new experiences; building and evolving the product design system and interaction patterns; and collaborating with product, engineering, and clinical teams. The role is based in NYC or Boston on a hybrid basis, or remotely on the East Coast.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of consumer-focused product design experience.
  • A portfolio demonstrating an exceptionally high bar for visual design.
  • Mastery of interaction design and a strong point of view on motion, including how timing, transitions, and feel influence trust.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and confidently bring new features to life.
  • Strong consumer-product sensibilities and judgment about what delight means in a healthcare context.
  • Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, including the ability to calibrate to the audience, resolve open questions, and create momentum.
  • Technical fluency sufficient to prototype in code and collaborate deeply with engineers.
  • Care deeply about people and creating positive outcomes for their health.

  • Experience shipping consumer products people love, ideally at an early-stage startup or in a high-growth, dynamic environment.
  • Early adoption of modern design tools such as Claude, Paper, and Remotion.
  • AI-native approach, including building tools to automate routine work and focus on high-impact areas.

Responsibilities

  • Shape the core experience of receiving care across mobile and web, from education and advice through prescriptions, labs, referrals, and follow-ups.
  • Set and continually raise visual, interaction, and motion craft standards, including micro-interactions, transitions, and product details.
  • Understand patient and clinical needs and translate the complexity of healthcare into simple, intuitive experiences.
  • Use modern tools to prototype, test, and iterate on new experiences, from initial concept through polished execution.
  • Build and evolve the product design system and interaction patterns to support craft and consistency as the team grows.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and clinical teams.
