Product Designer, Mobile Apps

Versant•Carlsbad, CA
•$120,000 - $138,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Full Swing builds technology for serious golfers and athletes, including simulator experiences and connected mobile apps and hardware. The mobile design team owns companion apps that pair with devices and support setup, calibration, live sessions, and performance tracking. As the hardware ecosystem expands, the apps are growing as well, with design focused on making complex connected experiences simple. The team partners closely with Product and Engineering from concept through launch and values both craft and rapid learning from real usage. The mid-level Product Designer leads scoped, end-to-end design work for key mobile app feature areas. The designer turns ambiguous problems into clear user flows and polished interfaces, and partners with cross-functional teams to ship useful features in a fast-paced, lean product environment. The role owns mobile feature design from problem framing through developer handoff; creates detailed Figma flows and prototypes; collaborates with Product Managers and Engineers from discovery through launch; contributes to the design system; validates and iterates on designs using research, analytics, and usability testing; communicates design rationale to stakeholders; collaborates with other designers; applies accessibility standards; and works with engineers through implementation and QA. The position operates in a hybrid or office-based environment, depending on company needs. Work is primarily performed in an office setting with standard working hours, though occasional after-hours support may be required. The role involves frequent cross-department interaction, extended periods of sitting and computer use, and the ability to lift 25 pounds.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of product design experience shipping consumer or professional mobile applications for iOS and/or Android.
  • A portfolio demonstrating end-to-end ownership of shipped product work, including problem framing, user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity UI, prototypes, and iteration informed by user feedback or product data.
  • Proficiency in Figma, including building and maintaining detailed user flows, component libraries, and interactive prototypes.
  • Solid understanding of iOS and Android design guidelines (Human Interface Guidelines and Material Design) and how they differ.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and move quickly in a fast-paced environment, including defining problems rather than only solving assigned problems.
  • Experience working directly with engineers through implementation and QA, not only handoff.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to explain design decisions to design and non-design audiences.
  • Portfolio should include 2–3 case studies demonstrating direct contribution to shipped mobile product work and cover user problem and context, role and partners, workflows and edge cases, design decisions and tradeoffs, final interface and prototype work, and launch outcomes and learnings. Confidential or password-protected case studies are welcome.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing connected hardware/software experiences, such as Bluetooth/BLE pairing, device onboarding, setup, calibration, live-session, or device-status flows.
  • Experience contributing to, auditing, or scaling a component library or design system.
  • Experience writing or collaborating closely on UX copy or microcopy.
  • Experience planning or supporting user interviews and usability tests, and synthesizing findings into product decisions.
  • Comfort incorporating AI tools into the design workflow, such as Figma AI or AI-assisted prototyping, to move faster without cutting corners.
  • Interest or background in sports, fitness, or performance-tracking products.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end design process for mobile features, from problem framing and user flows through high-fidelity UI and developer handoff.
  • Design and maintain detailed user flows and prototypes in Figma that communicate logic, edge cases, and states to engineering.
  • Partner with Product Managers and Engineers from early discovery through launch, balancing user needs, technical constraints, and business goals.
  • Contribute to and help evolve the design system to ensure consistency across iOS and Android.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative data, including user research, analytics, and usability testing, to validate design decisions and iterate after launch.
  • Present design rationale clearly to stakeholders, including leadership, and incorporate feedback while keeping the user problem in focus.
  • Collaborate with other designers on critique, systems thinking, and shared UX patterns across the broader product.
  • Design accessible mobile experiences using platform accessibility standards for interaction, visual hierarchy, typography, color, and touch targets.
  • Partner with engineers through implementation and QA to ensure shipped experiences match intended behavior, quality, and edge-case handling.

Benefits

  • Health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off may be included as additional forms of compensation; availability is not specified.
