About The Position

The Product Designer – AI Learning Experiences is part of our RISE Next Generation AI initiative, focused on designing and rapidly building learner-facing applications within our PEAK platform. PEAK is a data-informed system that enables adaptive, personalized learning based on real insights. The tools you build will be integrated into this ecosystem to support neurodivergent learners in engaging, effective ways. This is a fast-paced, experiment-driven role at the intersection of design and development. You’ll work with a small, high-trust team to turn ideas into prototypes, test them in real contexts, and iterate quickly based on feedback. In this role, you will: Design and build interactive prototypes end-to-end Create intuitive, neuro-affirming user experiences Collaborate with educators to ground designs in real needs Work with engineering to integrate backend logic Use AI tools to accelerate prototyping and iteration You’ll contribute to real tools used in educational settings, within a platform that is rapidly evolving in scope and impact.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong intuition in UX/UI design principles, including usability, clarity, and interaction design
  • Demonstrated ability to design for accessibility and diverse user needs, ideally including neurodivergent users
  • High level of initiative and comfort working in an experimental, fast-moving environment
  • Ability to independently take ideas from concept to functional prototype
  • Creative and flexible problem-solving approach
  • Comfort with ambiguity and evolving requirements
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • Alignment with LDS’s mission and values
  • Strong experience in UX/UI design and prototyping (2–5+ years or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated ability to build functional interactive prototypes independently
  • Strong familiarity with Git-based workflows
  • Experience designing for accessibility and diverse user needs
  • Willingness and ability to learn and adopt AI-assisted or agentic development workflows (e.g., GitHub Copilot, GPT-based tools, or similar)
  • Degree or equivalent experience in design, human-computer interaction, cognitive science, or a related field
  • Portfolio demonstrating UX/UI design and/or interactive prototype work
  • Eligibility to work in Canada
  • Criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening
  • Strong alignment with LDS’ mission and values

Nice To Haves

  • Frontend development experience aligned with modern web stacks (e.g., React/Next.js, or similar frameworks used in production systems)
  • Experience building interactive or game-like user experiences
  • Experience designing for neurodivergent users or in educational contexts
  • Interest in learning science, cognitive design, or human-centered AI systems

Responsibilities

  • Design and build interactive, learner-facing prototypes end-to-end
  • Rapidly translate concepts into testable applications and experiences
  • Apply UX principles with a strong focus on accessibility and neuroaffirming design
  • Collaborate with educators and internal staff to refine and validate ideas
  • Iterate quickly based on feedback, usage, and observation
  • Work closely with engineering to connect prototypes with backend systems and data
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate design and development workflows
  • Explore new formats (e.g., game-like interfaces, adaptive experiences, interactive tools)
  • Document concepts, prototypes, and learnings to support ongoing development
